TransAudio Group, Bettermaker's U.S. distributor, introduced the path breaking Bettermaker C502V at the AES's 139th Convention earlier this year in New York City. Like the rest of Bettermaker's catalog - which in just a few short years has earned numerous TEC, Resolution, and Prosound award nominations and wins, the C502V combines a boutique analog signal path (newsworthy in its own right) with intuitive, musical controls and complete parameter recall and automation from a linked DAW-based plug-in - high-end analog sound paired with a superior digital workflow. Aranita + Fischer at NRGBrent Fischer co-produced eight tracks for saxophonist, composer, arranger, and bandleader Aaron Aranita who has been making music in a dazzling array of contexts from Boston to Japan, to Hawaii, his home. Aranita has accompanied R&B icons The Temptations and Natalie Cole; old-school entertainers Andy Williams, Boston fusion combo Birdland, and the Hawaiian PBS Big Band. For the sessions in Los Angeles, the tracks got recorded with Fischer Big Band directed by Brent Fischer at NRG Studio A. Guitar, percussion and few other over dubs will be added between LA and Hawaii before the tracks are mixed by Matt Brownlie and Brent Fischer in August.

TransAudio Group, U.S. distributor of high-end professional audio recording equipment, is shipping the
Bettermaker Mastering Limiter.
BML combines a pure analog signal path with a USB connection that allows it to be controlled, recalled, automated, and A/B'd from its associated plug-in (The USB connection and plug-in only control the functionality of the hardware unit, no audio passes through the USB connection or plug-in). This unit is comprised of two separate level control circuits, an infinity to 1 limiter followed by a clipper. Both are fixed threshold circuits, with the limiter threshold approximately 3dB lower than the clipper. A user adjustable ratio controls the amount of work done by the limiter versus clipper, achieved through adjustment of the limiter attack time. Additionally, this unit features variable odd- and even-harmonic coloration, locally stored user presets, and responsive, comprehensive metering that frees up your computer screen for other workflow tasks.
"You cannot look at the Bettermaker Mastering Limiter as just one tool," explains Brad Lunde, founder and president of TransAudio Group. "It is a whole mastering system that replaces more than a few plug-ins and analog devices: limiter, clipper, saturator, M/S matrix, and a very sophisticated metering device. Its bright touchscreen display is pleasant to look at and frees up the computer screen. "Bettermaker's plug-in control is great. Not only can users recall and automate settings, but they can easily A/B settings from the plug-in to make smart decisions. You can also store and save presets right from the front panel or within Pro Tools or other DAW's," says Lunde. "The 'color' section is our original design; we did not model it on anything that is currently on the market," said Marek Walaszek, CEO at Addicted To Music group and the lead designer of the Bet-termaker products. "The idea is to give the user the ability to add odd harmonics, even harmonics, or both to the signal. The harmonics target a user specified area of the audio spectrum, which al-lows you to, for example, add even harmonics to the highs to give them a more smooth sound and odd harmonics to the lows to give them more bite. The color section mimics a wide-Q equalizer and users can apply equalization techniques when using this capability; after finding the target area us-ers adjust the amount to color to apply. Also, the color is not a mix of saturated signal and dry signal; the harmonic content becomes part of the original dry signal."
The metering page includes input, output, and reduction meters, a VU meter, RMS metering, LUFS (Short Term, Integral, Momentary, Loudness Range, View in Time) with TruePeak metering, K-metering, a FFT analyzer, a goniometer, a correlation meter, and three points of measurement: the plug-in, the physical input of the limiter, and the physical output of the limiter. Sire Records, one of the most revered and influential labels in modern music, is being reborn during its 50th anniversary year. Effective August 1, widely respected A&R executive Rani Hancock will become President of Sire, based in New York City.
Legendary music executive Seymour Stein, who co-founded Sire Records with Richard Gottehrer in 1967, will continue to bring his wealth of experience and wisdom to the label as its Chairman.

New RCA SVP, Sam Selolwane
RCA Records has promoted Sam Selolwane to the role of SVP urban promotion.
Selolwane previously held the position of VP urban promotions at the label. In her now role she will continue to report to EVP urban promotions Geo Bivins and will remain based at the company's New York headquarters.
Her career began as a radio programmer and on air personality, before being promoted to the role of promotion executive 12 years ago with Jive/RCA Records/Sony. FIve years into her label tenure, she was named National Urban Promotion Executive of the Year by industry organization Street Information Network. She also played an intricate role in launching the radio careers of Chris Brown and T-Pain.
Since rising to the role of VP urban promotions, she has worked with the likes of Usher, Alicia Keys, Charlie Wilson, Tinashe, Bryson Tiller, R.Kelly, Ro James, Kid Ink, Miguel and more.
Commenting on her promotion, Selolwane said: "I'm excited to continue working alongside the most innovative, passionate and forward thinking executives in the business."
PJ Bloom Promoted at Warner Brothers
Warner Brother Records (WMG) has named music supervisor, recording and publishing executive
PJ Bloom ("Glee") to Senior Vice President, Film & Television Music and Soundtracks. Bloom has created soundtracks for more than 1,000 episodes of television and 50 films, as well as video games, advertisements and amusement park thrill rides. He will oversee the placement of the label's roster in television, movies and evolving areas of visual media, as well as spearhead the acquisition of soundtrack properties on behalf of the label. He will be based in the company's Burbank headquarters, reporting to Peter Gray, Warner Bros. Records EVP/GM.

Quincy Jones took the witness stand on July 20, telling jurors he was "cheated out of a lot of money" by
Michael Jackson's estate. In 2003, Jones sued MJJ Productions and Sony Music Entertainment, asserting that songs such as "Thriller" and "Billie Jean," among others, were wrongly edited and remixed to exclude the prolific producer from backend profits and a producer's fee. The lawsuit alleged that Jones' contracts gave him the first option to re-edit or alter the songs as a way to protect his name.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael L. Stern resides on the case.
Jones' attorney, J. Michael Hennigan, sites not having adequate access to "audit material" from Sony (then CBS Records). Jones' legal team has publicly stated that their client is owned at least $30 million, but in the end a jury of mostly women decided. Attorney for Jackson's estate, Howard Weitzman, tried to get Jones to concede that he is entitled to a share of album sales but not to licensing revenues for the Jackson recordings (ie: Cirque du Soleil shows, etc). Jones asked the lawyer: "You ever made a No. 1 record?" "No," Weitzman said. "I know that," Jones replied. Did these financial consideration ever surface with the artist? Of course not. Jones said he worked with Jackson on the basis of "love, respect, and trust." The irony: $9.5 million seems little compared to the $50 million in fees received by executors of Jackson's estate since his death (
testified by an attorney for the estate).
RIP Chester Bennington (1976-2017) Linkin Park front man Chester Bennington, 41 was found dead in his home in Los Angeles.
"We were honored to pay tribute to him at our 2013 MusiCares MAP Fund® benefit concert, where he lent his time and talents to help raise money to assist members of the music community with the addiction treatment process," says Neil Portnow, President/CEO Recording Academy Chester had talked about suicide as the result of childhood trauma and abuse.
The news of his death came on the same day the band debuted a new music video for the single "Talking to Myself" off their latest album, "One More Light." Linkin Park became one of the most commercially successful rock acts of the 2000s.
Their hits include "In the End," "What I've Done" and "Numb."
The bandmates added the group's future is unknown as they mourn the loss of Bennington. "Thank you for that gift. ....Until we see you again," said a band member in a social post.
Our deepest love and thoughts are with his wife, Talinda and six children, his band mates and extended family/friends around the world.

Warner Brother released "One More Light" on May 19th, the seventh studio album by
Linkin Park. The sound and the logo (
full hexagon) are new. The juxtaposition of troubled Lyrics against calm and, at times, happy melodies, reveal an album that exposes inner struggles. The music lets the members dance with demons of sorts. It's a study of light and dark like the cover image itself. What inspired the album? Each band member sat down and wrote what they have been going through in their lives for the past two years. "Holy crap, that's been our lives, and we're being open about it," said Chester
Bennington in a live studio recording session intended to promote the release.
Sadly, this was also the last album featuring Bennington as lead vocalist before his untimely death on July 20, 2017. Perhaps this process of introspection in making the new album brought the band members closer together.
"
One More Light" (performed live on Jimmy Kimmel in May) is the heart of the album.
A fan writes in a YouTube post: "People say where is the suicide note......Damn the whole fucking album was the suicide note."
The album's first single "
Heavy" featurs Kiara. "Good Goodbye" features verses by rappers
Pusha T and
Stormzy. Yes, it sounds more pop and it's a departure from past works in many ways than one, including collaboration with electronic pop producers like
Julia Michaels,
Justin Tranter,
Jesse Shatkin, and
RAC. According to the band, the lyrics and emotion drove the music and style of the songs on the record. The music video for "Talking to Myself" was released on July 20, 2017, the same day that band member Bennington died.
"Battle Symphony" is a road trip, perhaps a looking glass into Chester's journey. In the end, the brightest light also had the darkest shadows. Farewell CB. Thank you for your passion and music.

The son of respected regional solo artist Jody Raffoul, Billy spent his childhood immersed in the finer points of rock history, watching his father perform, and learning to play guitar himself. By his late teens, he'd begun performing around his hometown of Leamington, Ontario and nearby towns, writing songs and honing his stagecraft. A session vocal gig in nearby Detroit proved to be his first real break, leading first to a management deal then to a record deal with Interscope. Splitting his time between Nashville and Los Angeles, Raffoul released his debut single, "Driver," in the spring of 2017 Listen/Watch: Dark Four Door Raffoul now splits his time between Nashville and Los Angeles where, in between playing shows, he has been collaborating with other songwriters and slowly but surely assembling his debut album. Proceeds from the 28th annual benefit gala-to be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City during GRAMMY® Week two nights prior to the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards®-will provide essential support for www.musicares.org, which ensures music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical, and personal need. The evening's tribute chairs are Shelli and Irving Azoff, Dorothy and Martin Bandier, Kristin and James Dolan, and Anna Chapman and Ronald Perelman.
Fleetwood Mac is being recognized for their significant creative accomplishments and their longtime support of a number of charitable causes, including MusiCares, the premier safety net of critical resources for the music industry.

As one of the best-selling bands of all time, Fleetwood Mac have sold more than 100 million records worldwide and established their place in rock and roll music history. Having created a distinctive sound that endures today, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Their 1977 album Rumours remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. In 2015, the band's classic and most successful line up-comprising Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, John McVie, and Stevie Nicks-reunited for the first time since 1998 for the On With The Show tour. The tour sold out arenas across the globe and showcased classic hit songs from Fleetwood Mac's career such as "The Chain," "Go Your Own Way," "Dreams," "Don't Stop," "Big Love," "Little Lies," and "Rhiannon," among others.
The MusiCares Person of the Year tribute ceremony is one of the most prestigious events held during GRAMMY Week and was last held in New York City in 2003. The celebration culminates with the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018. The telecast will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Driving a Tesla has been likened to sitting in the future. During a shareholders meeting, Elon Musk showed off his first mass-market electric Model 3 at a tune of $35k. He was also critical of existing streaming algorithms and the quality of their playlists, promising to build a music service feature for his company's vehicles that would be capable of suggesting "the music you want to listen to." The carmaker has had talks with all of the major labels about licensing a proprietary music service that would come bundled with its cars, which already come equipped with a high-tech dashboard and internet connectivity. Right now, Spotify and Apple have the clear lead: Spotify says it has at least 50 million paying subscribers for its service, and Apple says it has 27 million. Tesla has delivered over 100,000 as of January 2017. It's a big jump from a 10 buck a month streaming service into a $30K+ automobile. How often do you think that will happen? But, watch out if you're Sirius XM! Tesla's SpaceX is scheduled to launch a network of 4,425 mid-earth orbit satellites in 2019 which could compete seriously with Sirius-like services.
