Springfield-Greene County Library Partnership
The Republic School District is thrilled to be the first pilot district to partner with the Springfield-Greene County Library for the student access card program. This initiative provides access to a number of reliable databases full of endless resources! A few examples of the resources available include Tumblebooks, Credo, Biography in Context, Mango Languages, Lynda.com, Culturegrams Kids...and SO MUCH MORE!

Because of this partnership our students and employees have access to resources they may not have otherwise, we can ensure that the information they are obtaining is credible and they can access it in a safe manner 24 hours a day! Yes, this resource is available any time using the " Springfield-Greene County Library Database" link under "Quick Links" at  republicschools.org. To gain access, students and employees can use their district assigned Google username as the login and password.

Questions can be directed to your student's school librarian.

While this resource provides SO MUCH for our students, we encourage each student having their own individual library card and frequent visits to the library as well! You can learn more HERE.

What a tremendous opportunity we have with this partnership. Thank you Springfield-Greene County Library!

Activities Director, Greg Garton Announces Retirement
The Board of Education accepted Activities Director, Greg Garton's retirement notice at the August meeting. This school year is Mr. Garton's 31st year in education, 27 of which have been spent serving Republic students. He will remain in his current role through June 30, 2018. The district will begin searching for a new Activities Director this fall.

Individual Student State Assessment Reports
Each spring students across the district participate in state assessments. We have been notified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) that Individual Student Reports (ISR) are available.  During Parent Teacher Conferences, which will be held the week of October 30 (more information to come), individual student reports will be distributed to students who are currently in grades 4 and 5 that completed the MAP-GLA test last spring. Students who are currently in grades 6-9 that completed the MAP-GLA assessment last spring will receive individual reports attached to their next progress report from the Republic Middle School or Republic High School. A guide to interpreting your child's results will be included with the individual student report.  If you have any questions or would like to see your child's report prior to the aforementioned distribution times, please contact your child's school counselor.

9/11 Flag Raising Ceremony at RHS
In honor of those who served and in memory of those who perished in the tragic events of 9/11, the Republic High School hosted a flag raising ceremony on the morning of Monday, September 11.

RHS had the special honor of flying a flag over its building throughout the day on September 11 at half-staff that was gifted to one of the fortunate fire fighters that made it out of the first tower after it fell during 9/11. This fire fighter, David Koyles, received this flag during clean-up efforts  of the twin towers. Republic School District is fortunate that this brave fire figher's brother, Chief Kenneth Koyles is an AFJROTC Instructor at RHS.

This special flag has accompanied Chief Koyles during most of his deployments (his son took it when they were deployed at the same time) and has been flown on a B-2, A-10, EA-6, UH-60 (medevac missions by Koyle's son) and many other aircraft including a UAV. The flag has also been flown over Kirkuk AB Iraq and Camp Cunningham (Bagram AFB Afghanistan).

The Republic School District was humbled by the opportunity and continues to be humbled by all this flag stands for.

RMS & RHS Families: Canvas Tips
Below are a few tips for our secondary families in regards to Canvas, the district's learning management system.

How do I add my other secondary children to my parent Canvas account?
When you first create an account in Canvas, one child is linked to you. To add additional secondary children, Click "Account", then "Settings" in the top right corner. Then click "Observing" in the left menu. Enter their email address and 8-digit student password. Click here for directions.

How do I set my notifications as a parent observer in Canvas?
Canvas includes a set of default notification preferences you can receive for the courses you are observing. Notifications are sent to Canvas contact methods as specified in your account User Settings. However, you can change the default settings by setting your own notification preferences. These preferences only apply to you; they are not used to control how course updates are sent to the student you are observing.  Click here to learn how to change those settings.

What should I be looking for in Canvas now as an RMS/RHS parent?
You should begin to see student grades in Canvas. These will be the most up-to-date grades. SIS Parent Portal will only be updated weekly, on average.
You can also notify teachers through Canvas and see upcoming assignments and announcements.

Soon, we will be sending directions on how to add Canvas to your phone. In addition, we will continue to provide Canvas tips throughout the year as the need arises.
Required Text Opt-In...If you haven't already!
PARENTS/GUARDIANS: To receive texts from us be sure you have opted in to do so! If you haven't opted in yet, the below directions might help!
*This is especially for incoming kindergarten families and families new to Republic!

If you are pretty confident your cell number is in our system first try manually texting "Y" to code 67587. If that goes through, you will receive a confirmation text letting you know you are signed up to receive future texts. If that works, you are good to go.

However, if that does not work please contact the building your child attends to double-check that your number is in our system correctly. If it's not, they will manually put it in the system and then you should receive the opt-in message the next day.

If your number is already in our system, the issue is most likely with your wireless carrier. In that case you will need to contact your wireless provider and let them know you are unable to receive SMS messages. They should be able to turn them on. Thank you!
