8th Sunday after Pentecost
Sunday, July 30, 2017
8:30 and 10:30 am

Russell's Ritings,

Tradition has assigned the great penitential Psalm 51 to King David.  It is believed this great psalm, which contains the words "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me...." was written after David was confronted by Nathan the prophet after David had sinned with Bathsheba.

There is a story of a fellow who was visiting a different church each Sunday in search of a deeply felt need.  One Sunday he went to a church where worshippers joined in saying one of the great prayers of confession of the church.  He heard them pray, "Have mercy on us, O Lord, for we have done those things we ought not to have done, and left undone those things we ought to have done."  When he heard that he sat back in the pew and was heard to say with relief, "At last, I've found my crowd."

We all have sinned.  That's David's story - and it's our story.  This week, continuing in the summer series on David, we look at the David and Bathsheba story.  The text is in 2 Samuel 12: 1 - 10, 13.  I hope to see you ALL here!

Blessings,

Russell
