REFLECTIONS FROM FR. RICK

"I Love Coming to Church!"

I've been delighted and humbled to hear so many new folks tell me how much they are enjoying St. Michael's and how welcomed and accepted they feel. The light of Christ burns within us and I'm grateful that through your love so many others are experiencing the good news and embrace of God's reconciling love in Jesus Christ.

At our Annual Meeting in January I asked: "If St. Michael's were to disappear off the face of the earth tomorrow, other than our members, would anyone in College Park notice that we were gone, and those who did notice, would they care?" This is a serious and important question to consider because it invites us to consider God's purpose of our existence as a faith community and forces us to examine how we are impacting our community by living our core mission to: Love God. Love Others. Serve the World... and to be intentional in putting this mission into action.

Two of the many goals that I shared at the Annual Meeting were:
  1. Starting a Children's Family Ministry to reach the hearts and minds of unchurched parents and children in College Park and beyond with the Good News of God's reconciling love in Jesus Christ.
  2. Outreach in College Park to those in need.
For the next two Sunday's after the 10:15 service I invite you to join me for Coffee Hour with Fr. Rick when we will discuss these two goals along with some other plans for the fall and where we sense God is leading us. It's an exciting time and God is making a difference in our lives and the lives of those who visit. Thank you.

In Christ's love,

Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we welcome and accept you, and we trust God to take you where God wants you in God's timing.  We want to be a safe place for you to experience God's grace, love, and presence with us. Welcome home, Beloved.
Coffee Hour With Fr. Rick

We know it is summer, but God is on the move at St. Michael's and has much in store for us as we move toward the fall!  There are many exciting transitions happening: Youth Ministry, a new 9 am  Children's Family Service starting in September, and an outreach opportunity to help serve those in need in College Park.

So,  this  Sunday, July 30th and Sunday, August 6th after the 10:15 service, Fr. Rick will be in Quigley Hall to update us on the upcoming happenings and to answer any questions.

Children's Family Service Debuts Sept. 17!

The exciting new Children's Family Service begins at St. Michael's on SUNDAY, SEPT. 17!  Designed for College Park area families looking for a church service that is friendly and targeted for children and their parents, the service will last from 9-9:30 a.m. and will be held every Sunday.

Look for upcoming ads and publicity  in the College Park Community Newspaper about this family-focused new program at your church!
Godspeed! Celebrate Mike Beam on August 13

Please join us on Sunday, August 13th following the 10:15 service to honor Mike who is leaving St. Michael's after 12 years of service with us.  We will gather in Quigley Hall for fellowship, a pizza lunch, and time of reflection.

RSVP to the church office if you and your family are planning to attend.

Jamaican Mission Trip Creates Unbreakable Bonds
By Luke Jaberg

I recently went on the Son Servants mission trip to Jamaica. There were some things that stood out to me in my experience.  One was the VBS where I made bonds with the kids from another country. I also became friends with students across our nation and created an unbreakable bond with them. The biggest impact was going to the Manchester Infirmary to see all those sick people that I cannot help physically, but I can pray over them.  I gave them hugs and candy.

Luke worked alongside fellow students from St. Michael's as well as students from across the country in Jamaica.

To get more information on our events, check out our Facebook page at either "St. Michael's EYC" or "St. Michael's Young Adults" or on Twitter at @StMichaelsYYA.
