On-line Licensing System Provides Benefits for Alarm Companies

By now, most alarm companies should be aware that last year the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) and the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) implemented BreEZe, a new on-line licensing system. There are many benefits for alarm companies that utilize BreEZe. Unfortunately, we were informed by BSIS that among the industries they regulate the alarm industry utilizes BreEZe the least. Therefore, we want to encourage you and your company to utilize BreEZe. The benefits of using BreEZe are highlighted below.
Initial Employee Registration Applications: BreEZe applicants generally receive their registrations weeks earlier than paper applicants.
1. BreEZe applicants can pay the application fee online with a credit card. Paper applications require the fee to be processed by the Department's Cashiering Office. It takes two weeks for Cashiering to process the fee and forward the application to BSIS.
2. BreEZe online applications are designed to minimize deficiencies. 25% of paper applications are deficient and require the applicant to remedy the deficiency before the application can be processed. Deficiencies significantly delay the registration process.
3. BreEZe is designed to automatically synchronize the online application with the fingerprint responses from the Department of Justice/FBI. In many cases, registrations for BreEZe applications are issued in days if the applicant has no criminal history record and there are no discrepancies between the information provided on the application and the information entered by the Live Scan operator when fingerprints were submitted.

BreEZe applicants can pay the application fee online with a credit card, which immediately renews the registration and updates the expiration date (including information posted on public License Search website). Paper applications require the fee to be processed by the Department's Cashiering Office for the registration to renew. It takes about two weeks for Cashiering to process the fee.

Due to the complexity of company applications, a scanned copy of the actual application form must be uploaded with the online BreEZe application. However, paying the application fee online via BreEZe with a credit card reduces the overall application processing time on average. Paper applications require the fee to be processed by the Department's Cashiering Office. It takes two weeks for Cashiering to process the fee and forward the application to BSIS.
