Senator Randy Gardner visited Mr. Kohler's Honors Government class today. The class enjoyed a question and answer session with the Senator and lunch.

ADVERTISE ON "THE DEN" VIDEO SCOREBOARD
Partner with the Panthers and advertise this winter during the boys' basketball games on the area's only indoor video scoreboard! There are at least 10 home games on the court, during which your ad will be featured during pregame and halftime. Still ads run $275 for the season, and a 30 second video commercial is $325. VICTORY SUITE AVAILABLE
The Victory Suite is located in the balcony of "The Den" in the Kinzel Center. It seats up to 12 people , and you can bring your own food, or we have catering packages available. EARLY RELEASE DAY-THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3
Due to Parent/Teacher Conferences, Thursday, November 3 will be an early release day. Preschool will release at 1:00pm, and grades K-12 will be dismissed at 1:16pm. Bus transportation and Extended Day will be available for registered students.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Middle and high school teachers will be available to meet with parents for conferences on Thursday, November 3, from 1:45-4:45pm and 5:15-7:15pm in "The Den." The conferences will be held in an open table format to provide parents flexibility for meeting with teachers.
 
Grades K-5 Parent/Teacher Conferences are held by appointment in classrooms. Letters were sent home to parents this week. Please enter at the Main Entrance, under the blue awning, in the Decatur Street parking lot.

 


 
 
K-12 WRESTLING PRESEASON CAMP AND SIGN UP

On Sunday, November 6, there will be a Preseason Wrestling Camp held in the St. Mary Wrestling Room. There are two sessions: Beginners from 1-2:30pm and Experienced from 3-5:00pm.  The camp is open to students in grades K-12, and is perfect for anyone wishing to check out the sport. GRADES K-6 WRESTLING REGISTRATION
There will be a meeting on Thursday, November 10, at 6:00pm in the cafeteria for students in grades K-6 and their parents to register for Youth Wrestling. ANNUAL SMCC SWIM TEAM PIE SALE
The SMCC Swim Team is selling Troyers Amish made pies for Thanksgiving. The deadline to order is Friday, November 11, with pick up in the cafeteria on Tuesday, November 22, from 2:30pm-3:30pm.

NEW SCHOOL UNIFORM OPTION
There is a new cold weather uniform option available for grades K-12. Students may now wear a fleece vest or quarter zip pullover during the school day, embroidered with the school logo. Both options may only be with this order form.  Sample youth sizes are available to try on at Mrs. Parish's office, and sample adult sizes are located in the Main Hall.
 
GIL KROMER MEMORIAL 5K
Saturday, November 12, the Teen Leadership Corps Class is hosting the 2nd annual Gil Kromer Memorial 5K Run/Walk at Osborn Park. Registration begins at 7:30am, with the 5K race at 9:00am and the Mile Fun Run at 10:00am. This race is in memory of Gil Kromer, a former SCCS student, who passed away unexpectedly in October of 2014. All proceeds benefit the Gilbert David Kromer Scholarship Fund, established at SCCS. There will be an Enrollment Mass for children in 2nd grade making their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion this Sunday, October 30. Mass times are as follows: Sts. Peter and Paul at 10:00am, Holy Angels at 10:30am, and St. Mary's at 11:30am.

MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL NEWS

JUNIOR HIGH BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL
The 2016-2017 junior high basketball season starts with conditioning this Monday, October 31. Girls 7th and 8th grade practice is from 3:00-5:00pm, and boys 7th and 8th grade is from 5:30-7:30pm. Practice is held in the Multi-Purpose Room, and athletes are asked to wear their reversible jerseys and blue shorts.

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID NIGHT
Tiffin University will be here on Thursday, November 3, at 7:00pm in the PPC. They will be discussing the FAFSA process and have tips to maximize your scholarship money.

Voice of Democracy Scholarship, deadline November 1, 2016
The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $30,000 college scholarship, or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, these scholarships may be for you.

Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Patriot's Pen Scholarship, deadline November 1, 2016
Each year more than 132,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW's Patriot's Pen youth essay contest. The national first-place winner wins $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $54,500, with each first-place state winner receiving a minimum of $500 at the national level. 

The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America's history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300-400 word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. Knights of Columbus Ohio Scholarship, deadline November 15, 2016
The Knights of Columbus Ohio Charity Foundation scholarship is now accepting applications for their 2016-2017 Catholic school tuition scholarship. Any high school student is eligible to apply as long as they meet the following criteria: must be a practicing Catholic, attend an Ohio Catholic High School, and include latest grade transcript.
