We know you don't really want to eat all of it yourself. Donate it to our Christmas Angels ministry. We give it out to many of the seniors and larger families that we adopt from Revive. Please deliver to the Parish Office - 470 Maple Street. The staff will try to keep the nibbling to a minimum. Thanks!

Serve on the Altar: Acolyte!
Carry the cross and gospel book, light the way for the word of God by bearing the torches, and help prepare the communion table for Eucharist.  The jobs of an acolyte are symbolic and practical at the same time.  They represent Christ's sacrifice and the word of God in the midst of our congregation, but they also move the service along and facilitate our worship. Young people of all ages are encouraged to join! The only requirements are that an acolyte must be able to participate in an entire church service and handle fire responsibly.  In addition to helping serve on the altar, acolytes earn increasing levels of achievement, displayed in their crosses and ribbons.
We also have parties and celebrate together! Contact Leah for more information.

How Much Money Should I Put into the Offering Plate?
As much (or as little) as you like. Like most churches, Episcopal congregations exist mainly on donations from our members. Once a year, most parishes run a "campaign" asking each individual or family to make a financial promise for the upcoming year. We then total those promises and create our budget.

In general, Episcopal parishes spend the majority of the money on salaries, building upkeep, programming, and outreach. The more money that is collected, the more a church's ministry can be expanded. Donations also come in the form of volunteer time. Rummage, Choir, Family Promise, and A Just Harvest come to mind for starters.

However, the main reason for giving to a church has less to do with paying bills and much more to do with cultivating generous hearts. God invites us to be generous (2 Cor. 9:7). The Lord repeatedly points out that we will grow not by what we acquire, but by what we give away. As Christ gave himself away for us, so too are we asked to give of ourselves away to others. The goal is to become as generous to each other as God is to us.

That's why the Episcopal Church asks its members to use the tithe (10% of one's income) as a starting point. Tithing is never a requirement for membership; parishes gratefully receive any contribution. However, money is a spiritual issue and our churches address it by asking their members to grow-to strive less for acquiring things for ourselves, and doing more to help those in need.

Bottom line: when the plate gets passed, use your own discretion.  How much we give is between God and ourselves, and at the same time our gifts shape the nature and quality of the offering our church can make to the community. Know that any contribution is appreciated and, of course, to the extent allowable, tax deductible.
