A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 09 11 17

Parents and Guardians,

I hope you will be able to make it out to LHS for tonight's Open House. Our teachers are eager to meet you and share a little about their classes and what your student will be learning this year. The event begins at 6:30 (and lasts until 8:00), but I encourage you to arrive around 6:15 to pick up a copy of your student's schedule. We will follow a bell schedule to give you an opportunity to meet each of your student's teachers as well as see what your student's day is like. We appreciate your partnership with us, and look forward to seeing you tonight.

For those of you who had a Senior that graduated in the Class of 2017, we recently received an update from ACT on their performance as a class. According to the report, 232 out of 323 LHS Seniors took the ACT last year and had an average Composite Score of 25.7. With a State average Composite Score of 20.7 and a National average Composite Score of 21.0, your students showed they were ready to take on the challenges ahead of them.

One of the pillars of the Lovejoy Graduate Profile is, "Working for justice through community service." Our Lovejoy Visual Art AP Studio students are doing just that as they host a charity exhibition and fundraiser this week to benefit those affected by Hurricane Harvey. The exhibit will feature over 30 pieces created by AP Studio artists and will be sold through silent auction. The event will take place from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. this Thursday, September 14th in the Visual Arts Gallery located inside LHS. This is a great opportunity to support our fellow Texans and to see some amazing art work done by our students. I hope you have the opportunity to join us for this meaningful event.

There are lots of great things going on at LHS, and I encourage you to read through the rest of the email below to make sure you have all the information you need. Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School
