Reading The New Testament In 2017

For those of you reading through the New Testament with us this year, beginning August 1st we will be on 2 Corinthians chapter 3.  If you haven't started yet, just jump right in and join us.  We do five chapters a week, Monday through Friday.

August 13th Guest Speaker
Steve Pettit

Steve Pettit was born in Covington, Kentucky and has received academic and theological education from Northern Kentucky University, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Luther Rice Seminary.

Steve is married to Ella and they have five children who have graced us with six  grandchildren between them.

After serving in volunteer missions in Israel (1976-1977), Steve worked in the local church as both associate pastor and pastor in Kentucky (1978-1988). Since December of 1988, Steve has served as Director of a counseling and teaching ministry based in Florida.
As Director of One In Christ, Inc., Steve travels throughout the United States leading 15-18 discipleship, renewal, and family conferences per year. Throughout the week, people come to the One In Christ counseling center for personal and family counseling. In 1997, Steve also planted a new church start in Gainesville, Florida. CenterPoint Christian Fellowship, SBC, targets international students at the University of Florida. He is currently their pastor.

Whether leading Bible studies, family conferences, leadership training or in the counseling room, Steve is personally committed to the maturing of all believers through his gifts as teacher and counselor.

One In Christ, through Steve's leadership and ministry opportunities, seeks always to enlarge the church's awareness of "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27), so we as Christians may learn to live from our oneness with Christ.

We will be having Women's Bible Study two times each Wednesday, mornings at 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  in the HCC Fellowship Hall from August 16th - October 4th

Upcoming Haiti Mission Trips

We have two Haiti Mission trips coming up for construction of a church in the community of Bethel.

These trips will be different from our pasts trips  They will be a challenge as it is very hot and team members will be staying in community homes where the build site is at.  This will be a work/sleep mission with no off days.  We are not telling you this to scare people, we just need folks to know what to expect.

The cost is $1,000.00 per person which covers all expenses.  A $100.00 deposit will be due no later than August 28th, with the balance due by the end of September.

For more information please attend the informational meeting which will be held immediately after church on July 30th at the right front of the church.

The mission dates:
October 22-28 (limit to 15 members for concrete work)
October 29-Nov 4 (limit to 15 members for roof and framing)

If you feel like this is not your calling, please be in prayer to possibly sponsor others who can go but do not have the funds.

NextGen Student Ministry

End of Summer is upon us.  Students are gearing up to go back to school, and we are preparing for an exciting year in NextGen.

We are hosting a "Welcome to NextGen" party for all of our upcoming 6th graders at Pastor Sidney's house on Sunday, August 6th at 4:00pm.  The Brock family is opening their pool to us, so bring swim suits, towels, and your appetites as hot dogs and fixings will be served.  Parents of 6th grade students please feel free to join us during this time so you can meet me and ask any questions you may have about the upcoming school year.

We will be starting our Wednesday night meetings back up on Wednesday, August 16th at 6:00pm.  I'm excited to kick off this year with a series that is strictly going to introduce or reintroduce the Gospel to our students.  I'd love for all of our students to have a Bible so if you need to purchase one that is good for our students let me know, I will be ordering some within the first couple of weeks after starting back up.  Also, when school starts up, we all look forward to the first big event of the year which is Rock The Universe. The ticket prices will be $75.00. You can register for this event on-line.

Thank you all again for your prayers and support during the Summer. God Bless!!!

Promotion Day in the Treehouse on August 6th! We are looking forward to a wonderful year!!

Treehouse Kids

Here we go for another year in the Treehouse!

On August 6th, all elementary kids will move to their current grade level.  If you have a baby, toddler or two year old, please check the list outside the environment to see if your child has moved to the next environment.   Our oldest preschoolers will be in our VPK environment.  Help will be available at child check-in should you need assistance!

Family Worship in July was such a sweet time for our elementary kids, their families, and all of us!  I pray your families had some powerful faith building conversations at home! A very special thank you to our 26 amazing volunteers who stepped in to serve our preschoolers.   They loved on them well!!!

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, September 10, for our Treehouse Open House at 10:30.   You will have the opportunity to meet your child's new small group leader, hear an overview of the year and get acquainted with the resources available to you as the main spiritual influencer.    You will be in the Worship Center for the service by 11:00.  See you then!!

If you are interested in being a part of the Children's Ministry at Heritage in any capacity, please come to the Leadership Training day on August 12th.  There will be an informational session where you can find out the many ways you can serve our kids and help impact their faith journey.

Thank you for allowing us to partner with you as you train your children to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, strength and mind.

The month of August signals the end of summer break and the countdown down of 157 days till Christmas!

If your summer schedule has been anything like ours, it has been scattered with vacation time, and summer camps for the kids but now as summer winds down, life for those of us with children will get back to a more structured schedule. Looking back briefly on the summer, we had some outstanding camps with children and youth.  Thank you Sharon and Melvin for your instrumental leadership as well as all of the adults and student volunteers who were able to participate and serve as counselors.  Thank you so much for your commitment and love for our kids and families.  In addition, thank you to all who served in our preschool environments on Sunday's in July during "Family Month".  It was just a small way of saying thank you to those who serve in these areas of ministry throughout the year.

Looking at the August calendar this year, if you presently are serving as a volunteer in an area of ministry at Heritage, don't forget to sign up online for our volunteer appreciation banquet planned for Friday August 11th. In addition, we will have training for new and returning volunteers on Saturday August 12th from 9:00 am-2:00 pm at the Heritage campus.  (lunch provided) sign up online as well.

Serving and loving on our community has always been important to our Heritage family. With that being said, on Sunday, August 20th, in our morning gathering, we have a chance to participate in giving back through "Project Generosity" to our local community by collecting a special offering that will impact our own Fruitland Park Elementary School.  This year our community goal is $12,500. These monies being collected through out our community will be used to help with resources needed yet not covered by the Lake County School Board budgets.  Maybe your business would like to join us in this effort?  If you want further information, you can contact Amy Painter at 352-516-2812 or email at [email protected].  Our church goal for this special offering is $1,000.

If you are brave, hard working and ready to get your sweat on while making an impact for eternity in Haiti, We are presently needing two teams of about 15 persons to help us construct a church building in the village of Bethel in Haiti, the last two weeks of October.  Cost is $1,000 per person.  Maybe you can't go, but you would like to help sponsor a person who would like to but don't have the financial resources. Contact Steve Whitaker for more information at 352-408-8849.

As summer ends and we begin to settle into new schedules, my prayer is that we will be prompted to keep our time with Jesus and His WORD a priority.  Without even talking to you or listening to your story,  I know that Satan is going to do everything he can to fill up our schedule with "good stuff" so that our time with LORD and his WORD is limited. Let's not fall into this temptation and become distracted but let's keep the MAIN THING THE MAIN THING.  Set your schedule now and make it a priority to pause and be in God's word, listening for HIS voice so we can apply HIS wisdom to our everyday life.  If you don't have a resource for reading through God's word, we are presently reading through the New Testament as a church family, one chapter a day, 5 days a week with weekends to catch up or to go back and reflect.  During the month of August we will begin the book of 2 Corinthians.

We are very thankful for our church family and for the care you demonstrate to one another. Be mindful to pray and encourage one another as well as make the most of every opportunity you have to share the "Good News" and the Hope that a relationship with Jesus Christ brings.

As a church staff, it is a privilege to partner and serve along side of you.
