 Quotes We Love

"There are so many books left to read. For that reason alone it is worth going on living. Books make me happy, the help me escape from reality." ~Felix J. Palma

"Each time we come to a book we give it a different reading because we bring a different person to it. It is not you who reads the book, the book reads you" ~Jack Lasenby

"The fire of literacy is created by the emotional sparks between a child, a book, and the person reading. It isn't achieved by the book alone, nor by the child alone, nor by the adult who's reading aloud-it's the relationship winding between all three, bringing them together in easy harmony." ~Mem Fox
Art Gallery

Hillary Hostetler is a local professional artist and teaching artist. She creates paintings in mixed media, acrylic, and oil paints. Her current series of semi- abstract, floral paintings feature brightly colored, abundant flowers tumbling out of collaged vases made of hand dyed papers. Many of the paintings have interesting backgrounds layered with textured materials and metallic paints.

Director's Corner

This past Saturday, October 15th 2016, one of the Somers Library teams, led by our young adult Librarian Tara Ferretti, was declared champions of the Westchester Library System Battle of the Books (6th - 10th division)!  This fun but intense battle was the culmination of a nearly 6 month process of reading, reviewing, team practice and dedication by all the Somers Library Battle of the Books team members.  Although our teen team won this year, the Somers Library is very proud of both of the teams we sent to the Battle of the Books!

Congratulations Tara and all of the team members, and thanks to the Friends of the Library for volunteering at the event itself and providing the supplies and books for the teams to practice.
