Community Action Council of Howard County's mission is to diminish poverty, enable self-sufficiency and advocate for low-income families and individuals.  CAC's programs include early childhood education, housing assistance, energy and weatherization, and food assistance.
Message from the President

On behalf of CAC Board of Directors and the Holland Committee, I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to you for making this year's Holland Awards Dinner a success.

For 21 years, we have come together as a community to recognize and celebrate those outstanding individuals and businesses whose works and deeds have served to improve the quality of life for our neighbors in need. They have inspired us all to greater heights of giving through creating awareness of the issues faced by low-income families and individuals throughout our community.

This year's award was presented to the "Howard 7" Rotary Clubs whose "service above self" motto has served countless citizens and specifically made a difference in the lives of children in the Head Start program.

CAC was honored to host Dr. Wallace Loh, President of the University of Maryland as our keynote speaker. Dr. Loh affirmed our commitment to "helping people and changing lives"; he congratulated the "Howard 7" in transforming their idealism into impact by supporting the continued education of young children in the Head Start program; he reminded us of our responsibilities as citizens of the US and the world; and he inspired us to become a "Do Good" community by being in touch with the needs of our neighbors and friends of all socioeconomic status.

He shared the story of a young man lost and homesick in a foreign land and struggling academically. The young man felt hopeless until a professor took the time to let him know that he was important and that his success mattered. Today, that young man - Dr. Loh - is one of the most influential educators in our country.

"Helping People. Changing Lives" is what CAC is about. We are so proud to be part of a community that "Does Good" on an ongoing basis.

Thank you for supporting CAC and the Holland Awards Dinner. Your donations, attendance, sponsorship, and participation made this event one of our most successful to date. Together we can continue to enable others to enhance the quality of their lives and - as Dr. Loh so eloquently alluded to in his remarks - to share in the promise and opportunity of our community.

Thanks to Everyone Who Attended the 21st Annual Holland Awards Dinner!
