Summer has come to a close and we enter one of my favorite seasons.  I love fall and the change it represents.  I am ready to trade in hot humid days for cooler weather, trips to the beach for a visit to a local apple orchard, cookouts for tailgates and sandals for suede boots.

It is also the time to dig through our closets and get excited about the latest fall fashion trends!

This month's newsletter is dedicated to exploring fashion trends for fall, which we detail in the "Design Industry Spotlight" section of the newsletter.  In "Kim's Pearls", we focus on the ways the fashion and interior design industries often parallel each other.  The change of season is evident in the worlds of fashion and interior design alike. Trade magazines for both industries are full of new and exciting trends, colors and inspirations for the season.  And while the fashion runways are busy introducing the latest designer lines, we at SCL are busy preparing to attend the October furniture market.  There we will see the latest introductions and trends in the home furnishings.

Maybe I should pack a new outfit for that...

Warm Regards,

Kim

Kim's Pearls

I was recently standing in the grocery check out line when I could not help but notice all the magazines touting the latest fall fashions.  Wasn't it only August???  I was not ready to get rid of my shorts and tank tops, but there it was...tweed, leather and suede staring me in the face.  I guess it was time to embrace the coming of falling leaves and cooler weather.

I bought a handful of magazines and as I started browsing through them I realized how incredibly similar fashion design is to interior design.  Both industries are motivated by trends, but there are deeper connections.

What's Happening at SCL
  • As part of our focus on fashion and interior design, we are introducing 12 new boards and over 600 new pins on our Pinterest page! These boards show how similar the interior design and fashion industries are.  Come see the new boards and follow us on  Pinterest!
  • As part of a client's project, there was a need for built-ins in the Living Room--a wall unit surrounding the fireplace, and in the Study--an integrated desk, file cabinets and shelves on all 4 walls.  Walmer Enterprises did the work--they were wonderful to work with and they did a beautiful job!
  • Everyone likes a design challenge...  One of ours was to find a breakfront that was an unusual size, a certain style, a certain color and had to be delivered to a high rise building with no freight elevator!   We looked at Freemarc, Lorts, and Bausman & Co. for their custom solutions.

  • With the fashion focus this month, we have selected "Crewel Embroidery" as the design element from Traditional Home's "Classic Updates".  Learn its history and how it has been updated!
  • The interior design and fashion industries are influenced by the world around us.  One example was the news that U.S.A. and Cuba have restored full diplomatic relations.  See how that news influenced the Cubana Collection from Osborne & Little.

Trends:  Fashion & Interior Design

This fall there are many fabulous fashion trends and several of them align with the trends we are seeing in the interior design community.  Here are a few that are worth considering for a fashionable fall.   [read more...]
