August is a month that sneaks up on me.  I am always surprised when I realize summer is almost over and I still haven't checked everything off my "fun things to do this summer" list.  It is the time of year to savor every last drop of long, sunny days and cool evenings.  It is the time of year to enjoy family and friends before the start of another school year and the mad rush through the holiday season.

With that in mind, we invite you to take a moment to relax and enjoy our monthly newsletter.  This month we are focusing on rugs, "sustainable style", nesting tables and so much more.  So as the the song goes..."See you in September"!

Warm regards,

Kim

When working on a design project, I am often asked, "Do we start with the rug or end with the rug?"  My answer is "It depends..."  If you have a rug that you love, that is a great place to start.  If not, I usually prefer to select the rug later in the project.

If you are planning to purchase a rug for your design project, it is best to have an idea of the types of rugs that are available to you before making the investment.  Here are a few of the major types of rugs you might want to consider and why:   [read more...]

My Favorite Things!
My Favorite Thing!

It's hard to pick a favorite from the many pieces of furniture and accessories that Kim found for my family room.  So as not to take up the entire newsletter, I've narrowed it down to two.

I'll start with the blue lamps that sit on two round end tables next to my couch.  They are an interesting shape and I love the color and design pattern.  They definitely add the "pop" of color I wanted and I've gotten many compliments on them.

My favorite piece of furniture is the console next to our fireplace.  I wanted somewhere to house our electronics (cable box, blue ray player, etc.) that was pretty, not just a shelf or a standard entertainment center.  I bought this based on a picture and was a little unsure of what it would look like in person since I'd never seen anything like it.  The picture didn't do it justice!  The piece is large, the wood is beautiful and the wire on the front adds an interesting detail.  I loved it so much, we decided to get a second one to balance out the space on the other side of the fireplace.  The two units hold not only our electronics, but pictures and other colorful accessories that can be seen through the wire in the front.  It's an unusual piece of furniture, not too trendy, so I can see it being in our family for many years.

Vendor Spotlight -- Jaipur Rugs

Several years ago one of our favorite sales representatives called to share a new rug line with us.  She was excited about the rugs, but was even more enthusiastic about the company and their mission.  We were intrigued and promised to visit the showroom at the next High Point Market.  When we walked into the Jaipur Rugs showroom, we knew it wasn't just about rugs...it was about changing lives.   We loved that!   [read more...]
