THE SOURCE LIVE.
The Source Live! is a new web series from PRO*ACT to bring you timely information highlighting upcoming and current trends, potential disruptions, growing region updates, and education throughout the supply chain.

Our Sourcing Specialist at PRO*ACT visited with Driscoll's to discuss the different cropping cycles and growing regions, including both California and Mexico productions, and how different raspberry varieties are propagated within those growing districts. Additionally, we learned a bit about varietal development and how Driscoll's continues to work to combat the different challenges that arise in raspberry production, such as heat and labor.

Stay informed on how the weather and other conditions across the country and the globe affect the quality, availability, and price of you fresh fruits and vegetables.

BROCCOLI:   The growing regions are benefiting from ideal growing conditions. Supplies are abundant and the market has reflected this. As we move into the end of this week, supplies and markets will remain steady. Quality is really nice with vibrant green color. Although with school business about to kick into gear, the markets will change with a surge of demand.

ALERT! BRUSSELS SPROUTS:  Brussels Sprout supplies are extremely limited. We have finished one growing region in Mexico and another small growing region in Mexico is starting. But supplies from Mexico are extremely light. Also we are seeing a slow start in supplies from the Salinas Valley. We are 3 weeks away from getting back to normal conditions. As a result the market is extremely active. Sizes are ranging in small to medium and jumbo size is extremely limited.

CAULIFLOWER Like broccoli, ideal growing conditions. Supplies from most suppliers this week are steady. Quality has been great; weights are 25-29 lbs.

RASPBERRIES:  Supplies will be limited until the new crop is ready in August.

STRAWBERRIES:  Strawberry supplies will continue to be excellent this week. The weather in the Salinas and Watsonville growing areas will be sunny with warm temperatures in the afternoons. Production will remain steady with good volumes expected. Quality overall has been good, Sizing will be a bit smaller as growers are picking earlier to avoid over exposure to the sun. Market prices have been down and we expect this week to be much of the same.
