2017 Annual Business of Ice Hockey Report Now Available
The Annual Business of Ice Hockey is a great resource of information on participation and sales data in the United States. The 2017 Edition of the report is now available!
Overall participation in the U.S. increased slightly from 2015 to 2016, but overall sales for the categories of hockey equipment and ice skates decreased for the second straight year.
Members of the Hockey Dealers Association, and National Sporting Goods Association members with an interest in hockey, receive a free electronic copy of the report. Printed copies of the report are available to members upon request.
The cost of the report is $395 for non-members. Purchasing a one-year membership in HDA ($125 for retailers and team dealers; $545 for manufacturers and wholesalers) is a great way to not only receive the Annual Business of Ice Hockey report, but also to keep up with news and information on the industry and to utilize various cost-saving services.

Report: CCM Finds Buyer
Adidas will sell CCM Hockey for nearly $100 million to Canadian private equity firm Birch Hill Equity Partners, according to a July 20 report by the
New York Post. Adidas has been looking to focus on its core businesses and also agreed to sell its TaylorMade golf division earlier this year.

Allergic Reactions Sideline NHL Star
Marian Hossa for 2017-18
Chicago Blackhawks star Marian Hossa announced earlier this summer he would not play the 2017-18 season because of side effects for medication he is taking for a progressive skin disorder, which according to reports, was caused by an allergic reaction to his hockey equipment. Hossa helped the Hawks win three Stanley Cup but may be forced to retire after scoring 525 goals in 19 seasons.

Durham Source for Sports
Donates to Aboriginal Community
Jamie Jensen, the owner of Durham's Source for Sports in northern Ontario, had excess inventory from a move to a new location half as large as the previous store. A friend suggested that Jensen donate it to an aboriginal community and he gave nearly $10,000 in hockey and lacrosse gear and clothing for kids on the reservation to use.
"I thought it would be nice to give back," Jensen told DurhamRegion.com. "I'm glad we can give to a good cause up there."
Police Sergeant Honored for Saving Officer
Before Charity Hockey Game
When a Grand Rapids (Mich.) police officer collapsed in the locker room before a charity hockey game in Kalamazoo, another police officer and teammate stepped in and started chest compressions while the hockey center manager grabbed a defibrillator. The officer, Van Buren County sheriff's Sgt. Casey Davis, was honored by for his life-saving efforts.

Chen Helps Chinese Make
Inroads at Hockey's Highest Levels
Simon Chen compared hockey in his native China to Ping-Pong in Canada. But Chen is helping the growth of the game in China with his success last year in the BCHL and by playing in Vancouver with three of the Canucks' first-round picks. Chen's friend Andong Song was the first Chinese-born hockey player drafted in the NHL and the Canucks and Los Angeles Kings will play two exhibition games in China this fall.

The collaboration for the purchase of hockey equipment by U.S. hockey dealers between the HDA and National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) and SDC (Sports Distributors of Canada) continues to grow as it enters its third year.

There is no obligation to complete the form. Criteria used by SDC to determine participation may include a minimum sales volume of $200,000 in annual wholesale hockey products, credit rating, proximity to existing members and meeting certain store standards.
