KCCD is pleased to announce our 15th Anniversary Gala Dinner Honorees:
  • CA State Treasurer John Chiang
  • Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Chan Ho Park

  • Dr. Jannah Scott, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  • Dr. Thomas Lee, Children's Hospital Los Angeles
We will also be having a special tribute to Rev. Dong Sun Lim of Oriental Mission Church in Los Angeles.
Honorees
John Chiang
California State Treasurer
John Chiang was elected on Nov. 4, 2014, as California's 33rd State Treasurer. As the State's banker, he oversees trillions of dollars in transactions every year. One of his top priorities is to conduct the State's business in the most transparent manner possible.

Chiang sells California's bonds, invests the State's money and manages its cash. In addition, he manages financing authorities that help provide good-paying jobs, better schools, improved transportation, quality health care, more affordable housing and a cleaner environment. He handles those duties while sitting on the governing boards of the nation's two largest public pension funds - the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Chan Ho Park
Former MLB Pitcher of the Los Angeles Dodgers
Chan Ho Park made baseball history and courageously carried the weight of a nation on his shoulders. As the first player from South Korea to sign a groundbreaking Major League Baseball (MLB) contract, Park was a pioneer who opened the doors for others to pursue their big league dreams.

Park continues his work in the global community as an ambassador for baseball.  In 2011, Park joined Peter O'Malley, former Dodger President and good friend and mentor, as a founding partner to help save Historic Dodgertown, Vero Beach, Florida. In 2015, he was the goodwill ambassador for the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) working with youth in Vietnam. 2016 celebrates the 6th Annual "Camp 61" youth baseball camp which he founded through his foundation.  Today, Park is developing a baseball training center and entertainment complex in South Korea.

Rev. Mark Whitlock
Pastor, Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E Church
Rev. Mark E. Whitlock, Jr. has committed his life to serving God, the AME Church and the Community. Rev. Whitlock has served as pastor of Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church (COR Church) in Irvine, CA since August 1998.

Rev. Whitlock left his corporate career to serve the Los Angeles City following the Los Angeles "Rodney King" Riots. He is the founder and executive director of FAME Renaissance aka FAME Assistance Corporation, the economic development arm of First A.M.E. Church, Los Angeles 1992-2004. As the executive director, he raised over four hundred million dollars in grants, loans, and public and private fee for service contracted service initiatives. FAME Renaissance created no less than four thousand jobs within South Los Angeles.

Dr. Jannah Scott
Deputy Director of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security

Jannah Scott has served in many capacities with government, faith and the nonprofit community for the past 35 years.

In March of 2009, Jannah joined President Obama's administration as Deputy Director, Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In that role, Jannah guides the engagement of faith-based and community groups on issues of emergency preparedness, community resilience, and other issues within Homeland Security. Her most recent endeavors include: modeling "whole community" engagement in crisis management; and development of policies, standards and protocols for government work with private sector groups.

Dr. Thomas C. Lee
Director of the Vision Center, Retina Institute, Children's Hospital Los Angeles
Dr. Thomas Lee has developed the Retina Institute in Children's Hospital Los Angeles into a world class center and since 2011 has held the position as Director of the Vision Center which has eight full time faculty devoted to all aspects of childhood blindness.

Dr. Lee has made several advances in our understanding of pediatric retinal disease and has recruited a team of physicians and basic scientists to develop new treatments for conditions such as retinoblastoma and retinopathy of prematurity. In addition to developing a robust research
program, he has helped create an innovative education platform to teach doctors in developing countries remotely over the Internet.
