Kinnickinnic River Neighborhood Tour of Homes shows off all the neighborhood has to offer

A rainy day didn't stop these interested home buyers! A large group of residents loaded the bus with our Environmental Health Department to tour homes
and  learn about all the great things happening in the Kinnickinnic (KK) River Neighborhood. Residents were impressed with the drastic changes made to the river and parks, and the strong community engagement around the improvements. Many were surprised by the high quality of homes being shown and left with a better impression and increased interest in what the neighborhood has to offer.  One resident commented, "the river project is a precious change."
Sixteenth Street - Waukesha helps bring awareness to behavioral health needs at NAMI walk

Sixteenth Street - Waukesha staff participated in the NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) walk to help raise money and bring awareness to behavioral health needs in the community. The money raised will go towards education and efforts to eliminate stereotypes that defer people from seeking treatment. Sixteenth Street employees not only participated in the walk, but they also staffed a table with information and fun activities.  It was a great opportunity to speak with many other organizations and residents, letting the community know of the ample behavioral health services offered at Sixteenth Street - Waukesha.
Sixteenth Street helps community members take control of their sexual health in honor of National Latino Aids Awareness Day

On Friday, Oct. 14, Sixteenth Street's HIV Department hosted a Sexual Health Awareness event in honor of National Latino Aids Awareness Day, which falls on Oct. 15. The event included a grill out, community education and free rapid confidential HIV, Hep C and syphilis testing.

According to Wisconsin Department of Health Services, in 2015, 62 percent of new HIV diagnoses were among racial minorities, despite minorities making up just 17 percent of Wisconsin's population. During 2011-2015, the HIV diagnosis rate for males was 13-fold higher among Blacks and six-fold higher among Hispanics. For females, the rate was 25-fold higher among Blacks and eight-fold higher among Hispanics.

"National Latino AIDS Awareness Day calls the community to join together to further awareness of HIV infection and stigma, encourage HIV testing and work to build a community empowered in its healthcare," said Jennifer Ward, manager of the
HIV department at Sixteenth Street.

First and foremost - get vaccinated!

The most important thing you can do is get yourself and your entire family vaccinated. The flu spreads and is very contagious, even before we have any symptoms. A flu vaccine protects against the most common strains of the flu circulating
