Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Shop Sparta

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Alleghany Quilters' Guild Show 

The Quilters' Guild Show will be held on Friday, July 28th until Saturday, July 29th at the Emerson Black Building at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds. The Show will begin at 10 AM until 5 PM. For more information please call  (336) 372-1779.

Join us for the  Hillbilly Hoedown  with  Rise and Shine Band  every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free.

Alleghany Republican Party Picnic
 
The A lleghany County Republican Party will hold
its annual picnic at the  Lions Club Pavilion  (behind the high school) at 6 pm on 6pm on  Thursday,  August 3rd.  There will  be  FREE  hot dogs, hamburgers with side dishes and desserts.soda & tea. Elected officials will be available to discuss updates and various issues. 336-363-9598.
VFW Car Show
 
The VFW Car Show will be held on August 5. There will be trophies awarded around 1 PM for Best of Show, People's Choice, and Best of Show Top 30. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, Disc, Jockey, food vendors, door prizes. $5 for admission.
Moonlight Paddle
 
At 9 AM on August 4, there will be a moonlight paddle at New River State Park. Space is limited. To register please call 336-982-2587
Alleghany County Rescue Squad
 BBQ
 
Food sales will begin at 9 AM until 1 PM on August 5, including chopped pork BBQ with sauce, 1/2 lb. and 1 lb. cups, sandwiches, BBQ chicken 1/2 or whole, cole slaw will be sold with the chopped pork BBQ.
JAM Golf Tournament
 
Alleghany JAM will be holding a golf tournament at High Meadows Country Club on August 8. Double shotgun begins at 8 AM and 1 PM. $100 per person includes lunch. Benefits will go to Alleghany Junior Appalachian Music program for elementary school children.
