NJASA Legislative Update
On October 13, 2016 the following legislative activity occurred:  

A-3751 Jasey 
Permits candidates for school board to circulate petitions jointly and be bracketed together on ballot; permits short nonpolitical designation of principles on petitions and ballots; provides for study of impact of changes.

S-2668 Van Drew 
Eliminates use of standardized assessments as measure of student growth or progress in evaluations of teachers, principals, assistant principals, and vice-principals.

S-2675 Diegnan, Jr. 
Provides that school districts may receive reimbursement for costs incurred on or after January 1, 2016 for testing school drinking water for lead.

S-2676 Diegnan, Jr.   
Requires candidates for election to school board to file with their nominating petitions specific affirmation that they have not been convicted of crimes that would disqualify them from office.

S-2698 Greenstein 
Directs Commissioner of Education to appoint coordinator and regional consultants to coordinate the education of students with traumatic brain injury.

Modifies various aspects of charter school program including student enrollment procedures, revocation of charter, monitoring of charter schools, and collaboration between school districts and charter schools.

Proposes amendment to Constitution to provide that State aid to school districts will be allocated on equal per pupil basis.
