First of all - a big
THANK YOU to those of you who signed up to volunteer at our biggest event of the year, the
2017 RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial, earlier this month!
Locust Hill Country Club proved to be an exceptional host for our flagship event - and thanks to the coordinating efforts of RDGA Board Member
Dave Uhazie, many of you provided real-time, "live" scoring updates from the course during the Championship, which were then posted directly to the RDGA website (
www.RDGA.org). Many players (as well as their friends and families) commented how much they enjoyed being able to keep track of scoring throughout the event!
To those RDGA Delegates who were not able to volunteer for this year's District Championship - you missed a great party, as well as an exciting finish! Jim Scorse captured his fifth District title in the final round - but not before outlasting Jeff March in a three-hole sudden-death playoff! And all that afternoon, there was an hors d'ouvres reception on the outdoor deck at Locust Hill overlooking the 18th green, at which players, their guests - and all RDGA Delegates - were invited to attend! If you weren't there, I hope we see you next year when the District Championship heads to Monroe Golf Club.
And now...we look ahead to the rest of the season. Although the 2017 RDGA District Championship is "in the books," there are still three major championships yet to come in the next few weeks. The
RDGA Junior, Sub-Junior and Pee Wee Championships are up first, scheduled for July 31 through August 2 at the beautiful
Mill Creek Country Club. Next is the
RDGA Mid Amateur Championship - for men, ages 25 and above - at the stunning
Cobblestone Creek Country Club on August 11 and 12. And two weeks later, on August 29 and 30, the historic
Country Club of Rochester hosts the
RDGA Senior Championships for men ages 55 and above.
RDGA Delegates: we especially need your help to promote the Mid Amateur Championship at Cobblestone - and we can always use a hand at all our events if you would like to volunteer! Send me an email or give me a call if you can help out.
MID AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE:
As mentioned above, the next big RDGA Championship on this year's tournament schedule is the 2017 RDGA Mid Amateur, which will be hosted by Cobblestone Creek Country Club on August 11 and 12. This event is open to men, ages 25 and above - and the top-3 finishers earn exemptions into the 2018 RDGA District Championship! There are many spots left in the Mid-Amateur Championship - so let's talk this one up at your course - and, if you can, sign up yourself.

IN CLOSING...
I have started a spreadsheet, by course, on participation in RDGA's tournaments. The results are amazing. I believe I promised an award to the delegate who got the most people to play in the tournaments. Still time to get out there and fill them up with your people from your course to secure your chance to win!
Do you know who plays from your course? I do!
