PSAT and PSAT 8/9 EXAMS
The PSAT and PSAT 8/9 exams will be offered at Pen High on Wednesday morning, October 11. The PSAT 8/9 is offered to our 9th graders and is designed to establish a starting point in terms of college and career readiness as students transition to high school. The PSAT exam is available to our sophomores and juniors. Juniors who do well on this exam may be recognized as National Merit Scholars and be eligible for a plethora of scholarships. The PSAT is also a great way to get a feel for the format of the SAT exam. Students can register for the exam starting tomorrow. This week the exam price will be $21, next week the price goes up to $25, and the week after that the price will be $30. Students should bring their PVPHS ID card and cash or a check payable to PVPHS PSAT to the Student Store to sign up.

REMEMBERING OUR TITANS
This last Friday we hosted our second "Remember the Titans" football game.  RHHS alumni were invited to the Varsity Football game vs. Sotomayor  and created a tunnel for our team to run through at the beginning of the game. It was a great event for all involved! PVPHS is very proud of our roots and we enjoyed seeing so many proud alumni come out and support our school.

PANTHERS RALLY TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF HURRICANE HARVEY
This week's donation drive for Houston families was an overwhelmingly incredible success! We couldn't be more proud of our Panthers and their families. Students donated 220 BOXES OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES. The amphitheater stage overflowed with pencils, pens, art supplies, binders, notebooks and backpacks as Service Learning Leadership students worked to sort and box everything. Community members also dropped off another massive haul of donations including diapers (thank you for Rancho Del Mar High School!), pet supplies, bedding and clothing. In total Peninsula sent 220 boxes to Houston this week. We send everything with our very best wishes, and we will continue keep those affected by Hurricane Harvey in our thoughts. Thank you to EDI Express, Inc for ensuring the donations reach Houston ASAP; thank you parent volunteers who brought boxes and helped sort donations; thank you Service Learning Leadership for organizing behind the scenes; thank you everyone who donated!

FRESHMAN ELECTION RESULTS

ROBOTICS TEAM UPDATE
This last weekend, PVPHS's FRC Robotics Team has been showing at the Annual Navy's Fleet Week in San Pedro. They have been presenting both the robot and the business side of the team to the public, alongside four other teams from the South Bay. If you are interested, stop by at the robotics booth anytime on Sunday (9/3)or Monday (9/4) in between 8:00 AM AND 4:00 PM.

SOLAR BOAT
The school Solar Boat Team is looking for mentors for their Solar Cup Competition! The team meets throughout the year to make a life sized solar powered boat (big enough for one skipper) and competes in various endurance and speed races. They have been extremely successful in the past, winning many awards and recognitions. Mentors of engineering background - i.e. mechanical , electrical - and woodworking background are needed for the school year. Or any interested adult! Mentors will give students advice and suggestions about boat making decisions and engineering practices. If you think you would like to share some of your knowledge and experiences with a team of eager high school students, please contact solarboatpvphs@gmail.com.
