THE DOUBLE LIFE: STRUGGLING AS A FIRST GENERATION AMERICAN
By Ridha Abidshah

Have you ever felt like you couldn't be yourself? Always trying to please others around you but never pleasing yourself. This was the harsh truth of my life.

Being brought up by immigrant parents in the United State had a significant impact on me and my well-being. My parents were amazing in the sense of giving me whatever I wanted; but when it came time for me to develop as my own person it was not the case. I was taught to be perfect and that there was no room for mistakes. I was always told what to do and how to do it. Because of their beliefs, I instilled within myself that I could not disappoint my parents, no matter what.
COMMEMORATING 27 YEARS OF THE A.D.A.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) celebrates its 27th anniversary on July 26! The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation and all public and private places that are open to the general public. In 2009, the ADA was amended and the definition of “disability” was expanded to include matters of physical as well as mental health. Massachusetts will be celebrating the anniversary of the ADA with events across the state. To view and learn more about the specific events being hosted in Massachusetts in honor of the anniversary of the ADA, check out our calendar of events
