Message from Chuck
Summer is over!
I have a childhood friend from Yakima that teaches school in Ephrata. When we talked in June, I get so jealous of his upcoming summer of freedom. Just as he is starting vacation, our busiest time starts. Summer is, of course, our most hectic time of the year. It is as rewarding as it is challenging. We get to see all our friends and fellow Seabeck devotees. We also struggle at times with groups of 200 with 88 alternate diets (a new record). We do this gladly, but by the end of the season, we are very glad to see the calendar turn to September.
In many ways September can be as challenging as summer. The numbers are down slightly, but there are often three to eight groups on the campus at the same time. Groups come and go and that is hard for the kitchen to keep track of sometimes. Believe me, busy beats the alternative. We just need an empty day to clean the carpets!
These articles should get easier to write starting next September. If everything goes as planned, we should be starting to replace Pines this time next year. That seems so close to me. The campaign was well received all summer and the pledges are starting to roll in. We have a lot of things to get done in the next 365. I remain confident that we will succeed. If you would like me to come speak to your group, or if you would like to host a gathering of your Seabeck friends, please let me know. I would be glad to come and might even bring cookies.
So, we made it through our 103rd summer. I think Seabeck gets better every year. Can you imagine how great this place will be when our great-great-great-grandchildren come here in 100 years? Isn't it nice to think about that instead of whether it will be here? We are truly lucky to be involved in Seabeck during this golden age.

The Solar Eclipse
The Center for Spiritual Living was here for the solar eclipse. They handed out eclipse glasses to everyone in the group and even gave them to the staff. The timing was perfect. The group had a 12:30pm lunch so the staff had the opportunity to see the eclipse.

Mission Statement
To spark in students of diverse talents and backgrounds a passion for learning, accomplishment, and contribution to their communities.
Since 1924, The Bush School has inspired students to explore their interests, to engage with their environment, and to aspire to live rewarding and purposeful lives. We continue to honor the legacy of the school's founder, Helen Bush, on campus everyday by fostering an approach to learning based on trust and a belief that sustaining a child's natural curiosity helps to create a lifelong passion for learning. When you walk on our campus, you will notice immediately that our children are engaged with their surroundings, their teachers, their peers, and their own learning.
Although much has changed since 1924, our fundamental approach to teaching students remains steadfast and as relevant now as it was over ninety years ago. At Bush, our students solve real-life problems using critical reasoning, creative problem solving, and ethical decision making. As a result of their experiences, they discover that they can make an impact on the world around them and develop a love for learning that is joyful and enduring. As the only K - 12 independent school in Seattle, we have the privilege of watching students grow and develop through their primary and secondary school lives; we are proud to graduate great students and even better people.
Bush School usually brings about 80 kids and adults for their yearly September retreat at Seabeck.
