VOTE and
VOTE EARLY.
"The issues in this year’s election will have a significant impact on the lives of women, their families and non-profit organizations that support women’s causes" says Bettye Boone, Women Vote Early Coordinator of National Coalition of 100 Black Women - Memphis. "Issues such as the
gender pay gap,
violence against women,
reproductive health and rights,
health insurance,
employment,
education reform, and appointments of Supreme Court judges to name a few, are too important for women, who make up the largest voting electorate in this city/county, to sit this one out or to do a protest vote.
Women and women's human rights are under attack. As women we know that any issue that impacts America, impacts us and our families more significantly.” Boone stated.
SisterReach will be among several organizations and coalitions in attendance and are scheduled to be among the speakers for the event. "Black women are the largest and surest voting block in America," says Cherisse Scott, Founder & CEO of SisterReach. "Nevertheless, we've seen local and state policies negatively impact our families the greatest. SisterReach canvassers have been in Memphis communities mobilizing voters and registering voters for over eight weeks as we recognize voter suppression and low voter turnout as reproductive justice issues. We will not be able to change the conditions of our daily lives or build safe and sustainable communities without actively participating in every election," said Scott.
The press conference will be held at
Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church (early voting location), 70 North Bellevue Blvd., Memphis, TN on Saturday October 22nd beginning at 11:00 a.m. After the Press Conference, leaders will vote and will visit various locations throughout the city where women convene to encourage them
NOT TO WAIT UNTIL ELECTION DAY but to
VOTE EARLY.
