The autumn winds are blowing, and the new Sunday School year here.
Thank you to everyone who helped with Back to School Coffee at Edgebrook School and the Senior Senior Luncheon last Tuesday!
What a joy it is to do ministry across the generations!

We will NOT have Saturday worship at 5pm this week, so we will
see all of you on the church lawn
at 10am for Rally Day!

It's RALLY DAY: September 10

Our annual Rally Day celebration begins THIS SUNDAY at our 10am worship service outside on the church lawn, followed by a potluck!

We'll provide the entree and drinks, and some fun games. Please bring a side, salad, or dessert to share, and a joyful spirit as we begin another great year together. Feel free to invite your friends and neighbors!

We will have guests from Holy Family Ministries joining us to speak about Lucille Resale Shop, a store who's proceeds go towards tuition assistance and keeping tuition affordable for over 300 at-risk kids in the K-8 school, as well as youth programs for the Lawndale community. Please consider donating to this great cause!

Our guests will return on September 17th to collect donations, which may include:
Clothing: Men & Women,  Housewares & Home Decor,  Furniture,  Jewelry & Accessories (handbags, scarves, etc.), and Books (classics and best-sellers).
They do not wish to collect children's clothing, car seats, strollers, cribs, high chairs, helmets, mattresses and box springs, sleeper sofas, media centers, pianos, or items that are damaged or missing pieces. Thank you for your generosity!!!

Youth & Parents Meeting: Sunday at 9am
Hope to see our junior high and high school youth and parents at our meeting this  Sunday, September 10th at 9am in Rising Chapel. We'll talk about our plan for the year, fundraising opportunities, and what's in store for the summer of 2018, including voting on our 2018 mission trip location. Please come!
Talk with Pastor Christina if you have any questions.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School during our 9:45am Education Hour resumes on September 17th!! Sunday School is available for students in preschool through 8th grade.

SUNDAY SCHOOL Parents: Please register for Sunday School by clicking HERE

Those in 9th grade and older are encouraged to teach and help lead Sunday School for the younger students. We need a few more teachers, subs, and aides to help in our classrooms.
Please talk to Pastor Christina or Wendy Campbell if you are able to help this year.

Call to Action: September 17th at 9:45am
Nearly 30 people of the congregation came forward over the past 10 days feeling the call to move... to speak up and no longer be silent, and to stand up against sin and evil.

Pastor Joe and Pastor Christina have compiled your ideas and have put an action plan together for us to discuss on September 17th at 9:45am in Fellowship Hall.

Come and give your voice to the movement in our Edgebrook Lutheran Church Community and Chicagoland area.  All are welcome at this table.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Pastor Joe or Pastor Christina. Thank you.

Hurricane Harvey Relief
For those wishing to help those impacted by Hurricane Harvey, please consider giving to Lutheran Disaster ResponseGifts to Lutheran Disaster Response designated for "Hurricane Response - United States" will be used entirely (100 percent) for this disaster until the response is complete.

Lutheran Disaster Response's Coordinator for Texas/Louisiana reported that immediate threats and search and rescue are starting to slow. "Praise God," she said in her report.

Lutheran Disaster Response asks that you give responsibly. Unless a need has been verified and logistics confirmed ahead of time, please do not send material items.
The need is great and recovery efforts will continue for years to come. Consider a gift to Lutheran Disaster Response to help us foster hope and healing in communities impacted by this disaster.

ELCA News and Events
The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), has issued the following statement in response to the Trump administration's announcement about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

"As we journey together through the time God has given us, may God give us the grace of a welcoming heart and an overflowing love for the new neighbors among us" - ELCA social message, "Immigration" (1997).

We are saddened today by the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provided relief from deportation to young people who have grown up as members of our churches, as neighbors playing with our children, and enriching our communities. We pray today for those who will suffer undue repercussions due to the end of this program. As Lutherans, we regard the family as an indispensable social institution and stand firmly against policies that cause the separation of families.

As we lament this change in policy, we call on members of Congress to pass long-overdue legislation to protect young people brought to the U.S. as children, also known as Dreamers. Our churches, our schools, our communities and the country are enhanced by their presence and contributions. It is time that our immigration policy reflects their gifts to all of us.

God's peace,
Elizabeth A. Eaton
ELCA Presiding Bishop
