As you may have read late this afternoon and can find the full statement below, Governor Brown, Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon announced a commitment to address the housing crisis when the Legislature returns from their summer recess. Specifically, the leaders said that a "comprehensive package" will include:
general obligation bond
a permanent funding source for affordable housing
regulatory reform
While we wanted to see a housing package deal come together this week, and now votes on our housing bills will not be taken until after the Legislature returns August 21, it took a tremendous amount of work for us to move the barometer with the Governor and legislative leaders and make housing a priority. Thanks to our advocacy and efforts, we have the Governor and leaders on record calling for the same elements we have advocated them on and said are essential to building affordable homes for the families we know are struggling in our communities. Now we call on them to turn their talk into action.

"We appreciate the recognition from the Governor and legislative leaders that California cannot afford to let the housing crisis go on - for the sake of families, seniors, and hard working individuals, as well as for our local economies. Their public vow that state investment will be a part of the solution is what we need to build affordable homes.
"We are disappointed to see action be delayed by even a month until after their recess, however, we look forward to continuing to work with the Governor, leadership and the legislature to follow through on their commitment and take action to ease the housing and homelessness crisis."
