I'm writing to ask you to place November 8th on your calendar as a special day of prayer.  On this day, we will open the Sanctuary from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for anyone who would like to come in and have prayer.  At Noon, we will have a short worship service (no longer than thirty minutes) in the Sanctuary where we will simply read Scriptures and have prayer together for our nation.
Let me be clear up front that this is NOT a day of prayer for the election to go in-favor of any candidate nor is it a demonstration of national pride or patriotic fervor or political activity.  This is a simple call to humble prayer that sows for a great awakening of souls to God's presence and salvation in our day and time.

In Christ,
Brian Clark

Canned Good Challenge for the Norcross Cooperative Ministries:
A challenge has been issued (by me) to all the children to bring in at least 250 canned goods for the Norcross
Cooperative Ministries by Thanksgiving Day. Children can bring canned goods with them to Sunday School, 45's,  or Mission 252. Or they can just drop them off in the collection buckets located in my office (Building B).
If the  children raise 250 canned goods....I will personally match it for a total of 500!  Thank you in advance for helping  with this great cause.

My door is always open if you need anything!

4Sarah is excited about their 5th Annual Golf Tournament on October 28, 2016 at Cherokee Run Golf Club in Conyers.
We are asking all of our supporters to please consider being a sponsor this year. With your support, 4Sarah will be able to continue offering
resources to women and girls working in the sex industry and seeking guidance in their lives.
Atlanta is still facing a growing problem that can be stopped but only with the support from the community. I know there are hundreds of charities serving Georgia but making a contribution to 4Sarah can help change the lives of the women and girls we serve. Even if you are not a golfer, you may sponsor a hole for $125, or even sponsor a golf team. Your business will be promoted during our event and on our social media sites.
Here is the link to their eventbrite page for sponsors and golf teams to pay online.

Thank you for sharing our tournament with your family and friends.

Young Harris Scholarship Fund

The Young Harris Scholarship Fund has funds available whenever we have interested applicants from our church youth. Chris Mixer, Director of Student Ministries, and Michelle Wehrheim, Youth Administrative Assistant, make information about Young Harris and the available scholarship known to eligible students at Simpsonwood.

Students that receive the Simpsonwood scholarship usually receive matching funds from the United Methodist Leadership Scholars program (UMLS). The UMLS program is designed to encourage active UM students to attend a United Methodist-related college or university by offering these funds. The UMLS program is part of the UMHEF funds (Higher Education Funding).

Scholarship Committee policies:

We Need YOUR Help!

The Prayer Warriors are almost completely out of prayer shawls to give to the precious members and friends that are going through a difficult time and need prayer. We use the shawls to remind them that they are being prayed for on a weekly basis in our Prayer Warriors ministry.

We need shawls for men and women, young and old!! If you can minister in this way please contact Jann Roeder. We have some funds to help you to purchase the yarn.

Thanks so much for all you do!!

Dear SUMC members:

My name is Brooke and I am a member of troop 1719 in Norcross which is part of the Norcross II Service Unit.

For my Gold Award I have decided to tackle Teen Dating Violence, because Georgia is number one in this category as  reported by WRBL.com (Click here for information).    Low Self Esteem, Peer Pressure and Immaturity are some of the causes for violence in Teen Dating as reported by the CDC: Teen Dating Violence.  So as a native Georgia teen I have taken this to heart and I wanted to address these issues.  I partnered with Ms. Claire Lisco; who is a teen empowerment advocate that works for Partnership  Against Domestic Violence (PADV)  (Click here for information about PADV).

I will host a workshop with talking points on the causes for teen dating violence where we would speak more in depth about the signs of an abusive partner and the resources available to anyone who needs to get out of an abusive relationship.  Towards the end of the workshop we will have a self defense session as well.

My workshop is scheduled for Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 2 pm to 5 pm at one of the churches in the area.  I would like to ask for two things: Registration to the workshop and donations for PADV who support shelters for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence. Click here for the registration form.

I will set up a collection bin from 10/1- 10/31 for donations.  All of the donations will be given to PADV on the day of the workshop - November 5 th .    Here is the list of donations that would assist PADV.   My goal is to collect 100 items. If you are interested I have  attached  a flyer for my workshop.

Thank you for considering my request.

Yours In Girl Scouting,
Brooke

Praise God from Whom ALL blessings flow!!

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
