In the 16th century, Venetian glassmakers invented "crackle glass" also known as "ice glass," a decorative style that refracts light and creates a sparkling effect. Crackle glass is made by submerging a bubble of hot glass into cold water (while it is molten thereby cracking the glass), then
quickly reheating it to seal the web of fine cracks. It is then molded or hand blown into the desired shape. Crackled glass pieces will add sparkle to any tablesetting.
