Welcome back to all our students and staff! We had an amazing first week of school!  We wish a very warm welcome to the Gerzon-Kessler, Halpern, and Reid families to our Akiva Family!

Learning has gotten off to an amazing start! We have several new teachers who bring unique talents, experience and energy to our school community. You might hear Ms. Theissen playing the piano in her classroom with Grade 1 and 2, or Rabbi Halpern playing the guitar with his junior high class if you come at the right time. Grade 7-9 is looking forward to a field trip to Ms. Filewich's glass blowing studio and Grades 4-8 Girls can look forward to a mother-daughter paint night in October led by Miss Waseem. Mrs. Halpern brings a wealth of experience leading school programs and events. She met with Junior High students to organize Student Council and we look forward to cooperative group activities next week and a tashlich field trip at the end of the month for Grades 1-9. Mrs. Shahanas Vendekkan in daycare brings training and experience in Montessori and together with Ms. Ana, has gotten daycare off to a great start.  She is looking forward to meeting daycare parents at Parent Orientation Night.

We had beautiful weather for our back to school Akiva Family BBQ. As always Mrs. Mashiah did an amazing job preparing all the food and Mr. Hadden grilled the hot dogs to perfection. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped set up, serve, and clean up the event. Special thanks to the Jacobs family for sponsoring the popsicles!

If you haven't seen the amazing renovations that have taken place over the summer in the gym, please stop by to see them for yourself. Enrique worked very hard all summer to update the gym to what it is today.

Wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom and a wonderful new year!
