Please sign up for our Prayer Vigil

Emmanuel Church and Central Reform Temple will be at prayer in the days surrounding the election, for a peaceful transition, and for healing and reconciliation in our nation. Noon day prayer will be held in the Lindsey Chapel on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 7-9.

Bishop Gates has called the people of the Diocese of Massachusetts to a 48 hour prayer vigil, starting at noon on Sunday, November 6 and ending at noon on Tuesday, November 8. Each parish is asked to participate in a way that fits the congregation. Emmanuel is not a neighborhood parish, so trying to keep a physical vigil presence at 15 Newbury wouldn't include many people. Rather, our strength is in our wide reach.

I am asking that we keep the vigil by having individuals commit to an hour of prayer for each one of the 48 hours (or if we're lucky, more than one person can be praying at a time). You can pray, or meditate, or make music or art, or write -- how and where you pray is up to you. We will trust you to keep watch.

Our parish operations manager, Amanda March, has a schedule, so you can call or email her with the hour that you would like to cover for Emmanuel Church:  parishadmin.emmanuel@gmail.com or 617-536-3355 x 10. Please sign up for an hour to pray for Love to guide the people of this land in the election, that by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights and dignity of all might be protected. This is something that every one of you can do and I hope you will.
Finally, we will extend the welcome of our sanctuary and chapel for prayer and quiet reflection on Election Day between 9 am and 7 pm. as a way to welcome our neighbors for whom we are a polling place. -- plw

Tuesday morning Bible Study will resume  this Tuesday and continue through November. This group meets in the mornings from 7:30-8:30 a.m. in the Emmanuel Room (through the kitchen of the Parish House). Come whenever you are able to join us for this lively conversation with the Rector. This Bible Study meets in odd-numbered months.

CRT "TV NITE"
- Sunday November 6th - 5:00 pm ~ Popular TV sitcoms have long been a vehicle for the portrayal of American Jewish life. Join us for a fun evening exploring this unique aspect of popular culture. Rabbi Berman has studied this phenomenon for many years and will offer an overview of the theme going back to the pioneering days of television. We will watch classic episodes of All in the Family and Mary Tyler Moore. Pizza and salad will be served! Let us know if you can join us - info@centralreformtemple.org

A BEWITCHING DAY IN SALEM! Saturday, Nov. 19

Join your friends from Emmanuel Church and Central Reform Temple for a crisp fall afternoon visit to historic Salem. The "Witch City" is best known for the events surrounding the notorious Trials and executions of 1692, and the unfortunate commercialization of this tragic chapter in American history. Our group visit will help us explore the deeper- and enduring - social, cultural and religious issues that were reflected in the hysteria of that time, and continue as a dark undercurrent of our national life today.
Participants may plan to arrive early to visit local attractions such as the Peabody Essex Museum and the House of Seven Gables. We will meet at the Witch Museum, with its depiction of the events and themes of the Trials. Our visit will conclude with some reflection at the Witch Memorial, paying tribute to the innocent lives lost at that time....followed by dinner together in one of the town's charming restaurants.
Participants will make their own transportation arrangements - by car or train- to Salem. We will meet at 1:00 PM- Promptly - the Salem Witch Museum - 19 N Washington Square, Salem, MA 01970 ~ RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED - info@centralreformtemple.org

ATTENTION CRAFTERS!
Paul Guttry and Laura Jeppesen have been organizing a crafts show and sale for several years in Laura's home in Newton, and this year we're moving to Newbury Street, specifically the Parish Hall at Emmanuel Church! Past exhibitors have included members of both Emmanuel Church and Emmanuel Music. Given the shared connections of the exhibitors with Emmanuel, we have the opportunity to use the Parish Hall for the crafts show all day Sunday Dec 4. Would you like to join us as a vendor?

Requirements:
- you have handmade goods to sell. Items have included knitted hats, gloves, scarves; soaps, jewelry, clothes, pottery, holiday ornaments, and photography -- but we're open!
- you're willing to contribute to paying a church sexton for 4-6 hours, which will certainly be under $20 per person
- you are able to set up Sunday morning Dec 4 before/during church; not possible to set up the night before. Some tables available here.

* space limited; first-come, first-served.
* deadline for application: November 20
