 In Memory of Edouard Pliner
June 13, 1936 - October 25, 2016
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Colonial FSC Professional, Edouard Pliner.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family the entire Colonial skating community during this difficult time. He was an incredible contributor to the Club and the sport of figure skating, and will be deeply missed.
Remembering Edouard
Edouard was born in June 13, 1936 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, where he started skating at 14 years old. He won the Kirov Cup and was a member of the USSR national team, receiving the title of a Master of Sport (USSR). He graduated from the State Central Institute of Physical Culture (GTSOLIFK) in 1959, earning a Masters degree of Sports Science.

During his more than 50 year coaching career, he served as Head Coach on the Russian National Team, coached Olympic, World, European, Junior World and National Medalists, and spent more than 20 years coaching in the United States.  From 1991 to 1992, Edouard worked as a visiting skating coach in Austria, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, and Germany, before joining the Colonial Figure Skating Club professional staff in 1993. E douard was also awarded the prestigious Gold Pin from the IPSU (International Professional Skating Union) and was among the few elite coaches qualified to be considered Honorable Coach of Russia. 

Edouard passed away on October 25, 2016, after a brief illness.  He will be remembered for his discipline, wisdom, competitive spirit and gentle soul.  He is survived by his wife, Colonial FSC Club Professional Jane Pliner of Littleton, son Misha Zelikov and granddaughter/ CFSC skater Mika Zelikov, of Needham, and many other family and friends in the US and overseas.
