Garces Rams vs. Tehachapi Warriors
The Ogilvie Trophy to the Victor!

Tonight the Garces Rams football team plays up in Tehachapi and the winner will claim the Ogilvie Trophy.  It's a long standing rivalry and this year marks the 10th anniversary.  JV starts at 5:00 PM and the Varsity kicks off at 7:30 PM.  Come up the hill and root the Rams onto victory!  If you come - bring your cowbells and your confetti canons.  It's should be a great game.  If you are unable to be at the game, you can listen to the game on the Garces Radio Network on ESPN Radio - 98.1 FM or 1230 AM.   Go Rams!

ALUMNUS & COACH - GARY OGILVIE '55

THE COACH OGILVIE TROPHY

Longtime rivals Garces and Tehachapi will play tonight for the perpetual Coach Ogilvie Trophy, inaugurated in 2007 to honor a man who has been beloved for decades on both campuses.

Gary Ogilvie (class of 1955) quarterbacked the first Garces team that beat Tehachapi and then went on to win the school's first-ever Valley Championship in 1953.  A decade later he returned to coach the Rams in the '60s, leading them back to the Valley finals in 1968 for the first time since his playing days.  One of his players was John Fanucchi, who returned to Garces to become one of the Top 10 coaches in Valley history.

Coach moved to Tehachapi in the '70s and over the ensuing decades became one of the most successful coaches in the school's history.  There he coached Steve Denman and then eventually hired him to replace himself as the Warriors head coach.  Steve went on to become one of the most successful coaches in Valley history before retiring last year.

Today, Coach O. is still an active supporter of both schools, where he continues to serve as an inspiration for generations of Rams and Warriors.

RAM FACT:
Garces went 0-8 through our first two years before the last football game of the 1948 season in Tehachapi.  Ram Fans rode the train to the game, where Garces tied the eventual league champions, 25-25.  Since then, Garces leads the series 24-18-2.

Just a Coincidence?
Gary Ogilvie's doppelganger at Garces may well be current facilities director and baseball coach, Guy Dees.  Consider:
- Ogilvie worked at Tehachapi as a coach, teacher and administrator.
- One of his players was Guy, who later came here in the same roles.
- Both have children who are Tehachapi grads who later worked at Garces.
- Both still live in their hometowns where they started their coaching careers.
- Both still wear green on game-day.
Eerie coincidence or God's plan?  You decide.
Hurricane Harvey Outreach

Garces senior, Maggie Waguespack, organized a mini-fund drive held this morning to help our sister school, St. John XXIII.  Thursday night, Maggie made signs, called her fellow classmates, enlisted her sister Ellie Waguespack, and some of Ellie's friends as well.  Maggie even reached out to the local media to spread her message of the importance of helping those in need in Texas.  The girls were in the front parking lot and through the generosity of all of our parents who were dropping off students, the girls raised almost $1,000.00.  We are so proud of these Rams and everyone who is contributing to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The ASB class is selling dress passes for $5.00 and That T-Shirt Company is selling We Love Texas t-shirts.  Undoubtedly there will be some other ideas to help the victims as it will be a long recovery process for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act." - Proverbs 3:27

Alumni - Honorary Football Captains

In honor of our 70th anniversary, Garces invited several alumni up to a special lunch with some of the football players. The players ask the alumni Rams to be special guest captains at the home games this year.
