Greetings!

Thank you for reading the Friday News!   Please remember, everything we do, including this email is made possible by the generous support of GOAL members. If you are not a member, please consider joining GOAL , if you are a member, please consider a generous donation, purchasing raffle tickets, or attending a GOAL event.
Are You A GOAL Member?

It's not unusual for us to receive phone calls from MA gun owners who are looking for guidance and are not members of GOAL.

Often times they ask "why should I join GOAL?"  The answer is simple: "our answering of your phone call and question is made possible by GOAL members".
We are more than just a resource though, we continually work to protect & restore Second Amendment freedom, we support many education efforts including our full training schedule and we proudly represent the interests of all law abiding gun owners.

If you are not a member, please consider joining, you can do so online here: http://goal.org/joingoal.html

Five Reasons To Support National Reciprocity

1. Exercising a right shouldn’t be contingent upon what state you’re in. This seems like it would be obvious. Sadly, it’s not. The Supreme Court affirmed in 2008 that Americans have a constitutionally-protected individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms for self-defense. What’s more, no state can deny a Constitutional right. All national reciprocity means is that state governments must respect non-residents’ right to carry a firearm for self-defense to the same degree as residents of the state.
And despite rumors to the contrary, national reciprocity legislation would not dictate to states how and where residents could carry concealed. Non-residents would also have to abide by state regulations governing behavior and places of carry.

Please Support GOAL's Outdoor Heritage Act

S.437 Outdoor Heritage Act Summary

ATV Firearm Transportation

(Section 1) MGL C 90B, S 26 – The current ATV laws under Chapter 90B require that any gun be unloaded and enclosed in a case. Because this law does not appear in the hunting laws in Chapter 131 or the firearm laws in Chapters 140/269 many hunters and gun owners who utilize recreational vehicles are not aware of the restrictive requirements. There is also no exemption for lawful citizens who ride these vehicles and carry firearms for self-defense reasons.

Special Elections This Fall

There are a number of special elections this fall to fill vacancies in the MA legislature. If you live in any of the districts listed on this page, please contact the candidate and urge them to fill out our candidate questionnaire .

Also note, the candidates in the two house races and Worcester senate race have yet to be approved by the state, this is scheduled to happen in 9/5/17. We will update at that time.

The Story of Smith & Wesson’s First Revolver

American firearms company Smith & Wesson, to this day, manufacture revolvers alongside semi-automatic handguns. Did you know they started off in an entirely different direction?

Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson partnered in 1852 and began producing a lever-action repeating pistol that relied on a tubular magazine. These unusual handguns weren’t created at the Springfield, Massachusetts factory that still exists, but another facility in Norwich, Connecticut. With only a limited run of about 1,000 iron frame pistols, these first Smith & Wesson-marked handguns were met with limited market acceptance and the tepid sales probably contributed to both Smith and Wesson liquidating their shares in 1855 by sale to a newly organized firm, the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company.
