Pet Trick-or-Treating
at AHNA is Oct 26th!
Stop in for Pet Trick-or-Treating on Wednesday, October 26th at Animal Hospital of North Asheville from 6-7pm!
Our Education Room will be decorated for Halloween and we will have treats for people and pets, so please stop in between 6 and 7PM on October 26. Our pet treats are healthy and low calorie.

Taste of Compassion 2016
Put your best paw forward by joining fellow animal lovers at the premier charity gala of the season!
Animal Hospital of North Asheville is again the presenting sponsor for Taste of Compassion. We support this event because it is a large fund raiser for Asheville Humane Society and the proceeds go to helping needy animals in our own community. This enjoyable event features great food and drink as well as wonderful auction items.

October Is Pet Diabetes Month
Diabetes mellitus, also known as sugar diabetes, is a growing problem in the United States' human population. What many people don't realize is that diabetes is also a problem for dogs and cats. Animal Hospital of North Asheville has many diabetic patients, so we want to use October to raise awareness of the problem.
The most common signs of diabetes in pets are excessive thirst and increased urination. Many patients are hungrier than usual, and most lose weight despite having a good appetite.

Creepy Crawlies: Mites

When you hear the word "mites" you may shudder or think of little bugs crawling all over. Either way most people find them creepy. But the truth is that we often see mites on animals but good news- there is treatment! If your pet is itchy, losing hair, head shaking or digging at their ears be sure to make an appointment with your veterinarian.
Let's take a look at a couple different types of common mites that can affect your pet.

Let Your Dog Sniff

Many of us who love our dogs often wonder what they are thinking. Perhaps we would gain more insight into their minds if we wondered, "What are they smelling?"
Alexandra Horowitz, in her new book "Being a Dog," says that all dogs have the ability to create "a picture of the world through smell." This is partly because of the design of their snouts. Each nostril is controlled separately, allowing the dog not only to detect a particular smell, but also to locate it in space.

Keep Your Pet Safe During Halloween
It's Halloween time again, and while you're celebrating this fun holiday, remember these tips to keep your pets safe:
Keep your pets indoors. Plan ahead and get cats inside early in the day, or even the day before, since it might be hard to find them later. During "Trick or Treating" hours, keep pets in a secure and quiet area of the house, not where the front door opens. Please remember that pets don't understand Halloween and can really suffer when they are scared, so protect them from the sights and sounds.

in the AHNA Education Room. This class is presented by by Jenny White, CPDT-KA of Dog-Ed.
Are you interested in learning more about clicker training for your dog or cat? Have you ever wondered why people use "clickers" to train? Or when and how to use the clicker correctly? How does the "click" sound help train an animal? These questions and much more will be answered in this class.
Learn clicker training basics as well as a few fun games to play with your cat or dog. This class is not only for dog and cat families, clicker training works for all animals - even fish!

Concentration: Learn how to achieve focus, despite distractions
Saturdays, November 12 and 19th from 2:30 - 3:30pm in the AHNA Education Room. This class is presented by Jenny White, CPDT-KA of Dog-Ed.
Learn how to achieve focus by your dog, despite distractions. New environments, people, and other dogs can be challenging and stimulating for your dog. In this two session class, you will learn how to build focus and shift your dog's attention from distractions back to you. This "Concentration" class is a prerequisite for the other classes in the Training Games Series.
