Robert Lee Head of School |
The hearts and prayers of our nation have been with Houston and the victims of Harvey while at the same time, watching Irma off our own eastern coast. As we have seen the devastation, we have been asking for ways to become involved, and I would like to share a few reputable links where you may feel called to give to those in need.
The following three organizations are credible relief agencies who share our Christian values. I would encourage our school community to consider sending them a special donation to help with the relief efforts and other possible needs that arise in the days and weeks to come. Samaritans Purse, The Salvation Army, and the Red Cross links are posted below for you to consider giving.
Rather than taking a public offering for the victims of this hurricane, we are partnering with these agencies who are specialists on the ground. Giving to them individually also helps us follow the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount of not letting the left hand know what the right is doing or blowing a trumpet to announce our charity.
Jesus taught that our giving is to be seen only by God and that our rewards for such acts of secret charity are secure in heaven. Giving also releases our compassion and prayers for those in need as "where our treasure is, there our heart will be also." We in Eastern North Carolina have a particularly affinity and ability to empathize with this type of suffering, and I believe the comfort we have received will also be a comfort to them.
As the storms continue to come, we as a school will continue to look for ways to financially and personally be part of the solution. First of all, we pray. The benefit we want to add to our prayers is the ability to act and give as a signal of our solidarity with others who are suffering. Please join me in taking Jesus' words to heart "that it is more blessed to give than to receive," and let us continue to pray for God mercy for all of those in need.

Lost and Found |
It is that time of year when our lost and found bins begin busting at the seams as students begin leaving their jackets, sweaters and coats laying in and around the school. Please help us get your items returned by making sure your child's name is written somewhere on all items. We already have many items including water containers, lunchboxes, and miscellaneous articles of clothing in our lost and found.
Also, money has been found on 3 occasions at the Upper School. If you have a missing item or money, please stop by the school office.
