Summer Weather Finally Begins This Week!

Quite the weather we've experienced thus far this summer  here in the Northwoods! Seems like it's rained a least a little almost everyday. A guest recently told me she has plants growing in her yard that she's never seen before. And if you're a golfer, forget trying to retrieve any balls you hack into the woods, the understory is so lush. It's kind of like living in a tropical rain forest around here. Except for the temperatures, of course. Today we're not even forecast to break out of the 50s!

But relief, it appears, may be in sight. After pulling two of our first five performances of the summer indoors on account of rain, it looks as though Rookery live music fans will finally catch a break this weekend . The forecast for our scheduled performances on both Friday evening and Sunday afternoon are almost identical. Sunny skies with temps in the mid-70s. Nearly perfect! And don't we deserve it?

And what better way to get this glorious weekend off to a great start than by coming out to the Rookery on Friday evening to experience folk-country-blues singer/songwriter Colleen Myhre? Colleen has been described as "part Lucinda Williams and part Charlie Parr, whose gritty songwriting is as rawhide tough as it is genuine." Her songs, grounded in passionate and sincere family values, range from honest emotion and earthly imagery to the raucousness of horses, strippers, and whiskey. Simply put, she's awesome! And we're thrilled to be welcoming Colleen back to our outdoor stage after missing her last summer when she was busy performing with another band.

Then on Sunday we welcome a first-timer to the Rookery stage. But John Adler, performing  as Sonofmel, certainly is no stranger to the local music scene. While he currently lives and works in Hayward, John has traveled the world over the past 20 years. Along the way he's plied chords and verses from places and faces from Baku to Berkeley, Anchorage to Ankara, from recluse to royalty. He recently released a debut album featuring an eclectic mix of musicians and song themes. His style might best be described as folk with an outlaw edge. Rumor has it that John will be accompanied by "wickedly good" slide n steel guitarist, Slideman Grunow, at the Rookery this Sunday. It's gonna be one sweet afternoon!
