We had such a wonderful time on the 4th of July as you can see by the photos to the left. Good food, great friends and a fabulous parade. Bigfork is a truly special place. Summer in the Flathead--you can't beat it. I am looking forward to the Crown of the Continent Guitar Festival next month. We are so lucky to have the caliber of musicians visiting our valley. Our area is booming. There are a few articles above that may interest you relating to the area's growth and new business. The good news in real estate this month is that our current median price is at a new high. From Kelly Appraisal Services....
The median home price in this area is $239,000 this year, compared to $212,500 for the same period in 2016. This represents a 12.6 percent increase, which is slightly higher than the 9.1 percent increase seen this year on a countrywide basis. This current median price is a new record high for homes in Kalispell. 
The total number of sales in Kalispell was up 8.1 percent in the first half of the year, compared to being 
up 11.2 
percent in Flathead County.

From my kitchen to yours.... 
Lemon Chicken with Broccoli and Bow Ties
From the lovely and charming, Ina Garten,  Barefoot Contessa,  this  easy dish serves 8 to 10 and  makes a perfect summer offering. It's light yet substantial enough for an evening meal.  Qu ick and easy!  
Ingredients: 
3/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (4 lemons)
3/4 cup good olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
2 pounds boneless chicken breasts, halved and skin removed

For the salad:
8 cups broccoli florets (4 heads)
1/2 pound farfalle (bow tie) pasta
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup good olive oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
Zest of 1 lemon
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup toasted pine nuts
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Reading this helped me remember and appreciate life's small pleasures and all the fun and interesting people that come into it.  This book is by the same author as The Little Paris Bookshop. Take this one down to the lake, the shore, the river or wherever you go for summer relaxing!

Writer, Sailor, Soldier, Spy

I am enthralled by this story of one of my favorite authors, Ernest Hemingway. Apparently his involvement in the 2nd World War was more complex than I thought. He worked  with both the American OSS, a precursor to the CIA, and the Soviet NKVD, forerunner to the KGB, to defeat Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. 
He was a spy, an author, a soldier. How exciting! Makes me think I should get out more!
