The Foundation is now accepting applications for our annual Community Grants, providing program operating support in the range of $5,000-$15,000 to local nonprofit organizations. Priority areas are: arts and environment, youth development, economic security, early childhood and healthy communities. Guidelines and application can be found on our website

Orientation Sessions
To support and assist nonprofits as they prepare their applications for submission, we will be offering several Orientation Sessions for the following dates:
- Tuesday, August 8, 3:30-4:30 PM
- Thursday, August 10, 9:00-10:00 AM
- Wednesday, August 16, 12:00-1:00 PM

O&E Visits in August - Sign Up Today!
Site visits are an outstanding way for GWCF volunteers, fund holders and corporators to experience first-hand the impact our grantmaking has on the community.
Volunteers are invited to come hear from top agency leaders and see where programs are delivered. The best visits end with participants informed and inspired, both by the work of the agencies, and by how the Foundation is having a real impact.

Worcester County Food Bank Fund Wrap-up
The Foundation, in partnership with the Worcester County Food Bank, recently announced the awarding of $50,480 to 19 organizations as part of the Worcester County Food Bank Fund to End Hunger. Those who received funding will create innovative and sustainable solutions to the problem of hunger through advocacy and programs that incorporate practices that have shown promise throughout the country or in Worcester County.
"Many of the best approaches to addressing hunger arise from local communities and organizations working together," said Jean McMurray, executive director of the Worcester County Food Bank. "We're excited that the Fund is a meaningful resource to the efforts of many community partners."

Thank You for a Fantastic NSC Summer 2017 Social!
The Foundation would like to thank everyone that attended the 2017 Nonprofit Support Center (NSC) Summer Social. Community nonprofit leaders, funders, and executive directors all gathered at the Sprinkler Factory Artist Group in Worcester to celebrate this year's closing of our NSC workshops. NSC is a program of Greater Worcester Community Foundation established in 1998 to develop a capable, forward-thinking, and collaborative nonprofit sector.

Free Community Summer Activities in August

Summer is a time of fun, beach days and other exciting outdoor activities for kids. However, for many families in Central MA, summer activities can be costly. The good news is several Worcester nonprofits offer plenty of free summer options to entertain and even educate children while giving parents' relief from their wallets.
Here are a few affordable and exciting ways to enjoy this summer:
Take a break from beach days and head over to the Worcester Common Oval for musical entertainment that everyone will enjoy. From line dancing with the Country Music Ranch and Saloon to enjoying 80's classics such as David Bowie and Michael Jackson, Worcester Common Oval is the place to be.
Escape into the wilderness and enjoy nature this summer with one of the many hiking trails Greater Worcester Land Trust (GWLT) has to offer. With GWLT's wide range of trails, terrain and sights for children to behold, it will surely be a summer of adventure without the cost!
Worcester Historical Museum will be participating in Free Fun Fridays and will offer free admission to the museum on Friday, August 11. It is the perfect way to soak in some culture and experience all the rich history of Worcester without any out of pocket expense.
Recreation Worcester is a free year-round out-of-school time program for youth ages 7-13 run by the City of Worcester. Through these summer programs, students will engage in enriching, athletic, artistic and academic programming. Click

At the Worcester Public Library, children are encouraged to sign up to read a certain amount of books over the summer.
Green Hill Park's popular free canoeing program is each Friday afternoon through the end of August.
The summer is the perfect time to introduce art appreciation to children. Worcester Art Museum is reaching out to future artists with free kids' programs that encourage them to create their own works of art. Programs such as, "Helmutt's Drop-in Studio", are free with museum admission and help inspire children to enrich their art experience. The first Saturday of each month is free admission for all from 10AM to noon.
Whether you want to enjoy the sunshine outside or cool off indoors, there are plenty of free and exciting things for families and kids to do to enjoy the summer days before school starts again. Check out our Facebook page for more family fun activities this summer!
