Mattie Parker, the Chief of Staff for Fort Worth Mayor Price Is Right,
told a Vision Fort Worth luncheon crowd at Joe T. Garcia's that "the generation in this room must stand up" and get involved to advocate for a better city.

This is phat!!!! Mr. B was invited to model his love handles tomorrow night in front of the thousands of Chamber members during the Women's Insight Network Social at Skin Deep Laser MD. All ladies, all the time. Unfortunately, Mr. B has a prior engagement; Thursday nights are when he mows the yard. Actually, skittish about sharing his love handles with ... with anybody in public. In private, he would trust only the great Dr. Laura Riehm of Skin Deep. She has this SculpSure fat-melting laser system that is non-invasive and body contouring. Holy ex-cow! Mr. B has an upcoming private appointment ...hello Jamie Dornan. For you, Dr. Laura has four applicators (one area) of the SculpSure treatment.

Tuesdays with Mayor: Spend a City Council Tuesday as Fort Worth Mayor Price Is Right's Chief of Staff . What this priceless opportunity doesn't make clear is if the current Chief of Staff, Marvelous Mattie Parker, is going to be there to assist. Nor does it say if you need your own bike and helmet. Or your own power / energy bars to keep up with Mayor Price Is Right. One promise is that you won't have to prepare the weekly council packet, which runs about 50 pounds and 180 pages. Instead, you'll get a full day's inside look at how the city does business as Mattie negotiates positions, potholes and permits while assisting the Mayor and council.

A King-size opportunity: Is this some midsummer misnomer? With all the greatness of Topgolf, how could one possibly need a mulligan, which is a golf term for paid do-over? Lauren? Laurrr-ren? The Tarrant County Homeless Coalition is hosting a "fund + awareness-raiser" Aug. 10 at Topgolf called Mulligans for the Homeless, and included is three hours of golf for a twosome and a fajita dinner. Three hours, that's a lot of mulligans already built in. Lauren King is Director of Development for TCHC, whose mission is to lead, coordinate and develop strategies and resources to end homelessness. Ms. King will be your queen for the day if you are pin high with an entry.

The Wright way: A company can't go wrong with (John) Wright Simple Leadership Strategies. His micro workshops , in just one hour, get macro results, creating meaningful and lasting change. The psychotic side of Mr. B took the team dysfunction course. Boss Miserly Mistress took the employee disengagement course, which, of course, has Mr. B wondering if he is the disengaged one. The Wright Stuff also offers sessions on management training, leadership development and customer growth. He'll do one at your company if it is selected.

Congratulations to the July 19th Prize Winners:
  • Debra Smith, Pulliam Pools
  • Todd Collinsworth, Mutual of Omaha Bank
  • Heidi Cox, Edna Gladney Home
  • Christina Wells, American National Bank
  • James Stanphill, JPS Foundation

HE SAID, SHE SAID, THEY SAIDSoundBytes
Art-i-facts: When asked by a recent Chamber speaker his definition of "crisis communications," Guy Vanderpool, the Amon Carter Museum's Director of Development and Communications, said, "When you sit up front and have to answer..."

State of the Art: After 24 years, Chief Curator Michael Auping is retiring from the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Senior Curator Andrea Karnes will paint the next generation of curation. Mr. B eagerly awaits Auping's book (due in December), 40 Years: Just Talking about Art, which is conversations with artists during Auping's frame-work.

Going green: In its 31st year, the GM Financial Annual Chamber Golf Classic Sept. 18 will give golfers an opportunity to miss an entire day of work instead of three quarters. The day at Ridglea Country Club's North Course begins with an 8:30 breakfast and concludes with the 19th Hole Awards Reception & Silent Auction from 3:30-5 p.m. In between, there is golf, food, more golf, drink and even more golf, including range time to practice, a women's clinic and 18 holes of competitive play. You can register a team or yourownself here.

Spread Sheets: Two of three life lessons offered by Ann Sheets, President and CEO of Camp Fire First Texas, in a Fort Worth Business Press interview were specific to business folks. 1) One of the most important things is to do the right thing. And sometimes, it's not the popular thing to do. 2) Nothing is ever accomplished alone.

Are we having fun yet? As she embarked by SUV on a summer trip with four children and a dog to South Padre Island, Kathy Young of Credit Card Guy begged, "I need your prayers."
"It's your library. Be as loud as you want. Did you know libraries were the first co-working spaces?"
                                                --Leslie Oliver, President & CEO
Fort Worth Public Library Foundation
Straight talk: Some Stevie Dawn Inspires communication tips from a talk to Chamber members:
  • On listening: "You actually can repeat yourself two or three times because most people occasionally stop listening. Even if they hear it again, they probably won't hear it the same way."
  • On speaking: "Take out 'hedging.' Don't say, 'I believe' when you can say 'I know...'"
  • On humor: "Should be self-deprecating...make fun of yourself, not others."
  • "Grab someone's attention in seven seconds, so, 'Hi, I'm Stevie at Stevie Dawn Inspires' may not cut it."
Making the grade? TCU football head coach Gary Patterson says six of his eight 2016 "graduated" seniors are in NFL training camps.

Oh, to be young...: Graphics and digital designer Lizzie Lempeotis, 23, has done a super fab job of making Mr. B, love handles and all, look good the past few months in B2B Insider. Now, though, she's off to San Marcos to ...whaaaat? "Rent is just $250, so I'm going to take time to decide, maybe travel," she said. "I want to explore before settling back down in Fort Worth."

Christmas (expense) in July: Mike Langenberg of Long Hill Designs has had a busy seven days. July 20 was son Alexander's third birthday. July 22, he and wife Jen celebrated their 11th anniversary. July 24th was Jen's birthday.

Cheesy item: Small Business of the Year honoree Fulcrum Group is a Fort Worth company that assigns employees a nickname. Steve "The Doctor" Meek says Fulcrum stumbled over one for Partner David Johnson until someone pointed out he loves Mexican food and could eat it five days a week for lunch. The first words out of his mouth invariably are, "Can we start with a cup of queso?" Thus the legend of David "SeƱor Queso" Johnson.

Nicknames II: Balcom Agency is another company whose employees have nicknames. When Lynne Swihart was promoted recently to Director of Agency Operations and Production, she was asked if she had to change her nickname. "Yes, to She Who Must Be Obeyed," Lynne cracked. That, however, "only works with my family (sometimes)." She's keeping what she had had ...Poof. Done. Effortless!
