2016 College Football Hall of Fame electee Bert Jones (LSU) was honored Oct. 22 with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the Tigers' game against Ole Miss. Jones finished his career as LSU's all-time leader in passing yards, completions, attempts and touchdownsHis stellar 1972 season led to consensus First Team All-America honors and a fourth place finish in the Heisman voting. Click here to read more about Jones.

During the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, each inductee returns to his alma mater or school where they coached to accept a Hall of Fame plaque that will remain on permanent display at the institution. Jones will officially be inducted at the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner, held at New York City's historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

2016 College Football Hall of Fame electee Coach Frank Girardi (Lycoming [Pa.]) was honored Oct. 22 with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the Warriors' game against Lebanon Valley (Pa.). After posting a record of 257-97-5 (72.3 win percentage) at Lycoming from 1972-2007, Girardi will become the school's first College Football Hall of Fame inductee (player or coach). His remarkable win total ranks 16th all-time across all NCAA divisions. Click here to read more about Girardi.

The NFF announced the five outstanding recipients of the 2016 Chapter Leadership Awards. The Chapter Leadership Awards, first presented in 1988, annually recognize five individuals, one from each region of the country, for their commitment, generosity and leadership at the local level in fulfilling the NFF's mission of Building Leaders Through Football. Each of the five leadership award winners will be honored during the NFF Chapter Awards Luncheon, presented by Under Armour, on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
 
The 2016 NFF Chapter Leadership Award recipients are:
  • Jack Dawson - State of Maine Chapter, representing the Northeast Region
  • Bill Farkas - Passaic County (N.J.) Chapter, representing the East Region
  • Priscilla Kistler - NFFCHOF Bill Dooley (N.C.) Chapter, representing the South Region
  • Jeff Logan - Columbus (Ohio) Chapter, representing the Midwest Region
  • Tony Ortega - Pasadena/San Gabriel (Calif.) Chapter, representing the West Region
Alabama remained No. 1 in the Week 8 FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll. Michigan, Clemson, Washington and Louisville round out the top five in the poll, in which voters rank the top 16 FBS teams.

The results of the poll will be released every Sunday of the 2016 season and the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The final poll will be released Dec. 4. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers.

The Blitz
2016 College Football Hall of Fame electee Scott Woerner (Georgia) is among four who will be  inducted  into the Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame Oct. 28. The other inductees include former Georgia defensive lineman Marcus Stroud and former Florida kicker Jeff Chandler and All-America tight end Ben TroupeCBS broadcaster and 2011 NFF Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award recipient Verne Lundquist will also be inducted.

College Football Hall of Famer, 2005 NFF Distinguished American Award recipient and former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page has been named the 2016 recipient of the Notre Dame Monogram Club's Moose Krause Distinguished Service Award. He will be presented with the award the weekend of Oct. 28-29.

College Football Hall of Famer Joe Greene (North Texas) will be inducted as part of the 2017 Texas High School Football Hall of Fame Class on May 6, 2017, during a dinner at Baylor University's Ferrell Center. Current Illinois head coach Lovie Smith and 2017 College Football Hall of Fame candidate Dat Nguyen (Texas A&M) are also part of the class.

College Football Hall of Famer and 1996 Campbell Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel (Florida)  will celebrate  the 20th anniversary of his Heisman Trophy during a "Rivalry for a Cause" at the 6th Annual Desire Cup fundraiser weekend at TPC Sawgrass during the Florida-Georgia football game weekend, Oct. 27-29.

College Football Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow was one of the first three inductees into the Mizzou Homecoming Hall of Fame and served as a grand marshal during Missouri's Homecoming Parade.

Former Texas athletics director and the 2006 recipient of the NFF John L. Toner Award, DeLoss Dodds, was honored by the university in an on-campus event where the Longhorn Foundation announced the creation of the Mary Ann and DeLoss Dodds Legacy Campaign to support former UT athletes who wish to return to campus and finish their degrees. NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell was among the many college administrators in attendance to honor Dodds. 


NFF Program Updates

The NFF Scholar-Athlete of the Day, presented by Fidelity Investments, is a daily segment honoring the semifinalists for the 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. Today's honoree is Duke safety DeVon Edwards, who graduated in May with a 3.35 GPA in psychology and is currently pursuing a master's degree in liberal studies.

Over The Middle
Villanova dedicated the Andrew J. Talley Athletic Center in the west end zone of its stadium, named in honor of NFF Philadelphia Chapter President Andy Talley, who will retire as the Wildcats' head coach after this season.

The  Little Rock Touchdown Club/NFF Arkansas Chapter's   2016 fall speaker series continued yesterday with the Razorback Southwest Conference Hall of Fame ceremony. Central Arkansas head coach Steve Campbell will speak next week on Oct. 31. Click here to see videos of this year's speakers.

The NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter will host a luncheon on Oct. 26 at Lombardo's Airport restaurant featuring Dr. Brian Mahaffeythe St. Louis Cardinals team physician.

NFF Vermont Chapter president Mickey Heinecken will be among those inducted into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 28. Heinecken played and later coached at Delaware before becoming the head coach at Middlebury (Vt.).

Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes set an FBS single-game record with 819 yards of total offense in the Red Raiders' game against Oklahoma Saturday.
