Family Night at Incredible Pizza
Wednesday, August 2 @ 6:30 p.m.
Come join us for our annual family event at Incredible Pizza, 2850 S. Campbell. We will meet in their gym meeting room at 6:30 for fellowship and worship and enjoy dinner together. You must  check in. You will have the opportunity to purchase a buffet meal at a discounted price. The buffet will cost $7.49 plus tax, Ages 4-11 the cost will be $4.99 plus tax, Seniors over age 55 the cost will be $5.99 plus tax.
One of the features of Incredible Pizza is family-friendly games and activities. The first 15 children ages 3 to 11 who join the NHBC group after 6:00 will receive a FREE $10 game card. All Youth attending will receive a game card. Game cards do not expire and remaining balances can be used at a later time. Invite your friends to come to this fun summertime event!

A prayer chain consists of a group of people willing to take time to pray when others have a need

We send our prayer chain 3 different ways - email, text, or personal phone call. You choose your preferred method of communication.
How do I join a prayer chain?
You can call the church office or on August 13 you will find an insert in The Vision that you may fill out and turn in.
How do I request a prayer chain to be started for my prayer needs?

Deacon's Corner
The great commission is to grow God's kingdom. The best thing that we here at NHBC can do is  act like Christians. We need to show our joy in Christ by how we worship, and singing praises to our Lord, how we greet each other and those outside of church. If we act like the world, why would anyone want to become a Christian? We are a family and the way we can make our family bigger is by showing that we care for each other and for those outside the church. We need to greet everyone with an encouraging word and a smile. Our life is watched every day, Do I present Christ with my life and how I treat others? Am I willing to step out of my comfort zone to do something for others like telling someone about my experience with my Lord? I know that I am not the best I can be but the Lord is working with me and I know He is working with you too. May the Lord be with you and bless you. Carl Rose

Christmas in August
Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call
Their favorite time of the year.
The above carol is the opening song from A Charlie Brown Christmas, and it's become one of my
 favorite carols. It announces that Christmas time has arrived. And, at NHBC, "Christmas time is here!". At least we're going to begin preparing for it! So, to begin the festivities, the choir is excited to host their 7th annual Christmas in August. And you're invited!
On Sunday, August 27th at noon, we will be having a choir
fellowship to present our music and plans for the 2017 Christmas presentations. Many people enjoy singing in a choir, but can't always commit to being a part of it all year long. This might be an opportunity for you to sing with us. I want to encourage everyone who wants to be a part of the Christmas choir to be there. This year, our Christmas Choir will meet for practices on Sunday evenings at 6:45pm (directly after our evening worship services)

Women On Mission Collecting School Supplies
During August please bring the following school supplies and place in the tubs at entryways. #2 pencils, EXPO dry erase markers, large boxes Kleenex tissue, hand sanitizer, Lysol and Clorox wipes. These needs have been requested by staff at Fremont Elementary School. Thank you!

Esther Muncy of Harmony House to speak at WOM
On Tuesday, August 8, at 9:00 a.m. Women on Mission will meet in fellowship hall. The meeting will begin 30 minutes early in order to assemble the nearly 90 Welcome Bags for the Fremont Elementary School kindergarten kiddos. The welcome bags are a fun gift from our church to each of the kindergarten children in our partnership school. Several items are included: a new pencil, an eraser, a
box of crayons, a bookmark and some items just for fun. The bags are taken to the teachers who will distribute them at the end of the day for the children to take home. Thank you, church family, for providing these items for the children. Each bag indicates it is a gift from our church and also expresses best wishes for a happy school year from our church.
The business session under the direction of Presidents Judy Divine and Doris Whitcher will begin about 9:30. Officers for the 2017-2018 will be elected. The nominating committee is Mildred Burns, Chairman, Lois Wood and Mary McLemore. Other reports will be given and plans will be made for the fall and winter ministry projects. Patti Crocker will lead in the Prayer Pattern time for
our missionaries around the world. The coffee/snack/chat break will occur from about 10:15 until 10:45. Hostesses for this time will be announced later in the weekly church bulletin. Come and enjoy this time of sharing and informal fellowship. The program will begin at about 10:45.
The program focus under leadership of Becky Bennett is on Domestic Violence in Springfield. We will hear Esther Muncy, Director of Harmony House, formerly Family Violence Center. This organization has provided shelter, advocacy and education to survivors of domestic violence since 1976. She has been asked to share current factors involved in Springfield domestic cases and its prevalence, causes, patterns and prevention. Keep in mind that all individuals have the right to a life free from abuse. Come and hear what Ms. Muncy has to share with us. You will be enriched for learning more about this difficult problem.

Prime Timers - August 17
 This month we will meet on August 17 at 11:00. After a time for prayer requests and a short business meeting we will enjoy the talents of Brian Watson singing southern gospel favorites. After our program we will enjoy a carry-in lunch. Everyone is asked to bring a dish of your own choosing if you can, if not come anyway. Remember to bring food staples or paper goods for Grand Oak Mission, and keep sending those cards to the homebound

Back to Work Days
Women on Mission will gather on Tuesday, August 22 for a work day at 9:30 a.m. This will be a meeting devoted to mission action activities. The women will be making quilts for Grand Oak Mission. Each year our women make 12 to 15 regular size quilts and 60 to 80 baby and children's quilts for the mission center to distribute to those in need.
Some of the women will be making salvation bracelets. These are used by the Greene County Baptist Mission Teams in their outreach ministries in Mexico each summer. In July of 2017, our church made and delivered almost 4,450 bracelets to be used in this outreach ministry of sharing the gospel. The bracelets are wonderful "attention getters." They are a great way to get a conversation going when meeting someone new, especially one who speaks another language. They are a joy to make and an interesting way to present the gospel to people of all ages.
The work day begins at 9:30 in fellowship hall under the direction of Darlene Gideon, quilting chairman and Doris Whitcher, chairman of the salvation bracelets. A coffee/snack/chat break will occur at about 10:15 with Eva McNeely as hostess. The work day will conclude at about 11:30 with no lunch being served. New workers are always welcome. Come and enjoy the sharing time together.

Stretching with Scripture
NOW on Mondays at 5:30
(starting August 7)
Join us for Stretching with Scripture. If you haven't joined us before, we would love to have you. We will be stretching to Christian music which will include scripture & prayer during class. Open to all ages, members and non-members of NHBC.
You will need a signed waiver & water. A mat is recommended but not required. There is no charge for this ministry opportunity. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. If you have any questions, please see LaShena Wheat.

Audio Visual Volunteers Needed
Serve the Lord with joy! Psalm 100:2
I remember as a teenager growing up in the church that running the sound system was the first area that I really began to serve in my local church. I'm forever grateful for that opportunity. It developed in me a sense of ownership and pride in both my church and the work that I did there. It was my opportunity to invest in the ministry of the church and be an integral part of the worship of our church.
It's a huge responsibility because without someone to do this job, we couldn't have church service the way we're accustomed to doing it.
But, it's a huge blessing because it's an indispensable part of our church's worship offering each week to God.
If you're interested in being a part of this ministry, come to our organizational meeting on Sunday, August 13, 6:45pm (immediately after evening worship).

Thank you to the many people who have done and are still doing sewing and cutting out items for Newborns in Need. Large layettes go to hospitals, clinics and social agencies in Springfield and also in Carthage, Monett, Aurora, Houston, Joplin, Branson and Northwest Arkansas. Items are sent to agencies in 26 different counties throughout Southwest Missouri and Northern Arkansas. Smaller layettes go to Pregnancy Care Centers and other individually packaged items go to Doctor's offices, ER's, WIC offices, Health Departments, schools, pantries and homeless shelters. They provide for nearly 1,000 babies a month through 80 different agencies.

All women are invited to this inspirational area-wide event featuring noted author and speaker Jennifer Rothschild, scheduled for November 3-4 at Second Baptist Church, Springfield. The Friday session will be held from 7 pm - 9:30 pm and the Saturday session from 8:45 am - 12:30 pm. Lunch is not included. Unadvertised co host special ticket price of $39 until September 3. We will begin selling tickets on August 6 and continue through the month of August. Special pricing of $30 per ticket will be available for NHBC ladies who purchase their tickets on August 6 only.
