Looking Toward this Sunday September 10, 2017-RALLY DAY!
ONE SERVICE ONLY AT 11 IN THE SANCTUARY
SUNDAY SCHOOL KICKOFF AT 9:45

Scripture: Matthew 18: 1-14
Sermon: This Child, and This Child, and This Child

Lib McGregor Simmons will preach at 11 in the sanctuary.

This Sunday's Scripture lesson falls within the fourth of five major sections of Jesus's teaching found in the Gospel according to Matthew, and it marks a major transition.  Jesus's ministry in Galilee has come to a conclusion; the journey to Jerusalem where he will suffer and die will soon commence.  By consolidating various teachings from throughout Jesus's ministry in this particular location, Matthew has crafted a significant teaching moment regarding the ministry of the church.

The teaching focuses on how to care for the "little ones."  While the term referred to anyone in that day who was marginalized and powerless, Jesus's picking up a child and placing her in the center of the disciples' circle gives readers in our own day permission to narrow the spotlight and to focus in on the church's calling to respond to Jesus's exhortation: "Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me."

On this Rally Day, we will highlight ways DCPC welcomes children including, although not limited to, our faith formation program and the DCPC-Blythe Elementary School partnership.

The Chancel choir will sing Jesus Loves Me .

Rally Day is this Sunday. Come at 9:45 as we kick off the new Sunday School year. There will be ONE worship service at 11:00. CHILDREN, BRING YOUR BACKPACKS TO BE BLESSEDDCPC FALL PICNIC will follow  the 11:00 worship service in the Congregation House. Barbeque and drinks will be provided.   We ask each family to please bring a side dish to share (salad, vegetable and/or dessert).  Since the side dishes and desserts are so popular, please bring a generous portion to share!! All food items can be dropped off at the Congregation House before worship. Tables and chairs will be set up, but families may want to bring a blanket for younger children. Come join the fun!
