Principal's Message

We made it through the first month of the 2017-18 school year! It was great seeing your kids and hearing about their summer adventures! We have completed our Fall MAP assessments and your students are well into their grade level curriculum. I am proud to announce that Groveport Madison saw significant growth in the K-2 Literacy grade on the district report card and with the instructional programs we have in places this year we should continue to see even more growth.

This month's newsletter is filled with helpful instructional tips to get your school year started. We know your support at home also helps grow students. We welcome two way conversations about your child throughout the year so we all have the tools that are best suited to support your child's needs.

Thanks for checking out our newsletter and remember you can follow us on twitter @glendeningelem and check out our website at  gocruisers.org/glendeningelementary_home.aspx

I wish you all a happy, healthy, and safe 2017-18 school year!

Groveport Madison Schools has gone one-to-one with computers this school year! Your child will be assigned a Chromebook that will follow them throughout their time here in our district. Students will be given a unique computer id that has been etched onto their computers. It is their responsibility to ensure proper use of these devices at all times.

Online Instructional Resources

We have a number of online curriculum resources we use at Glendening. These resources can be accessed at home to help stretch learning and provide practice beyond daily classroom lessons. Every child's instructional needs are different so be sure to contact your child's teachers to see which resources they are using this school year, where your child's time should be focused for the best results, and the login credentials to access the content.

Resource Instructional Purpose

This resource is used for classroom management and communication between classroom teachers and parents. It helps recognize students for positive behavior and alerts parents when there is a need for improvement. Class announcements and individualized behavior reports can be access through this resource.

This resource is used to build phonemic awareness and reading skills. Reading Horizons Discovery is used for grades K-2 and Reading Horizons Elevate is used for grades 3rd-5th. We have additional language arts resources we use at Glendening. We align these resources based on your child's current needs.

Zearn is our online math resource that aligns to our Eureka math program. Learning tutorials, math games, and practice lessons are assigned to students in the order they are taught through Eureka.

Study Island is a practice recourse for math, science, language arts, and social studies. Teachers assign lessons for students to complete.

Growth Mindset Quote

"Dream big and dare to fail."

Here at Glendening we feel it is important to have a growth mindset. We will share inspirational quotes to keep us focused on reaching higher levels of achievement.

What is a growth mindset? "In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work-brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment," Carol Dweck.
