insightInsight Has Arrived
Another great issue of Insight is now available! Read a High Holy Day message from Rabbi Zecher, learn about our Spiritual Practice Lab from Carol Targum, read about our Green Impact from Dan Deutsch & Marc Maxwell, and see what it meant for Rabbi JacobsonJancy Langley & Brian Goodman, LuLu Pierce, Mike Kalin & Becky Lambert, and Emily Badgley Tatelbaum to experience a life cycle moment in the context of our community. But wait, there's more! Susan Ridker shares how her family got to know Temple Israel through the FJECC Preschool, Mitchell Shames explains our connection to, and the importance of, the URJ, and Rabbi Gubitz writes about becoming the hub of the hub. And of course...this issue welcomes our new Board President, Gary Pforzheimer! Read it online.
tishaTisha B'Av
Monday, July 31 from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Temple Ohabei Shalom, 1187 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02446
Please join us for a time of reflection as we recall times of destruction and despair throughout Jewish history on Tisha B'Av, the fast day which traditionally commemorates the destruction of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem by the Babylonian Empire in 586 BCE and by the Romans in 70 CE, the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492, and other tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people. On this evening we have the opportunity to come together in remembrance and mourning, but also in renewed hope and strength as we face continued challenges for the Jewish people and for all of humanity. Through song, silent reflection, and hearing the chanting of the biblical Book of Lamentations, Eicha, we will connect to community and history on this special evening, recalling the profound pain and the incredible resilience of our people.  The service will be led by Rabbi Audrey Berkman. Contact  Naomi Fisher, at 617-277-6610 x 156 with any questions.
