President's Open Forum, Memo
In an effort to encourage ongoing communication and teamwork across campus, President Greg Schulz has scheduled a series of Open Forums. The next forum is scheduled for Monday, October 17 at 2 p.m. in Bldg. 200, Room 224. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion. President Schulz will invite discussion related to concerns raised by the incident that occurred on campus on October 13. Read his memo regarding the incident on the

Get Ready for the Great Shakeout
Campus Safety along with Building and Floor Evacuation Marshalls will initiate an evacuation exercise of the entire campus on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 10:20 a.m.

Speech Department to Host Debate on Proposition 63 Firearms Ammunition Initiative
The Fullerton College Speech Department will be hosting a forensics showcase featuring a debate on Proposition 63, the firearms ammunition initiative. The showcase will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Room 224. Faculty and students are invited to attend.
Islamophobia in American Politics
Join the Social Sciences Division for a Q&A session with Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, to discuss the topic of Islamophobia in American Politics. This event is on Oct. 25 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 1440.
Register to Vote by Next Monday, Oct. 24
Only 8 percent of eligible youth aged 18-24 voted in the 2014 general election. Only 52 percent of eligible youth were even registered to vote, more than 20 points below any other age group. Fullerton College students can help turn that around. The first step is to register. Visit

Transfer Awareness Week Begins Oct. 17
The Transfer Center will host a week of activities and workshops that encourage students to seek transfer opportunities during Transfer Awareness Week from Oct. 17 - 22. Activities include an Ice Cream Social & Transfer Alumni Panel discussion on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. and a UC Admissions Panel on Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m. Both events will be held in Room 212. Also on Oct. 19, a Fall College Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the quad. Additionally, the Transfer Center will host Transfer Basics workshops throughout the week. More information at

Family Harvest Event and Resource Fair
Community members are invited to a free family harvest event and resource fair, Harvesting Opportunities, hosted by the School of Continuing Education on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SCE Anaheim Campus, West Parking Lot. This event includes a resource fair with access to information on education, health/wellness, employment, food/social services, emergency preparation, safety, legal services, financial literacy, citizenship, energy/water conservation, and health screenings for blood pressure and glucose. Transfer Center Workshops
Learn about transfer admissions requirements, selection criteria and tips for a successful transfer on Monday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. and learn how to prepare for transfer to impacted and selective institutions on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. Transfer Basics 301 is on Thursday, Oct. 20 at noon and Transfer Basics 501 at 2 p.m. RSVP to the Transfer Center, Room 212 to attend any of these events.
Ways to Strengthen Your Critical Thinking Skills
Basic Skills is hosting various student success workshops during the fall. These workshops are open to all Fullerton College students, in any discipline, and are facilitated by graduate students in the Basic Skills Graduate Student Mentorship Program. This week's event is on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. in Room 808A.

Interview and Resume Workshops
The Career Center is hosting workshops to help students with their career paths. The first event is on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. and covers interviews and elevator speeches. The second workshop covers resumes and cover letters and is on Monday, Oct. 24 at noon. Both workshops are in the Career and Life Planning Center in the 2000 Building, 2nd floor. The Fullerton College Symphonic Winds group in concert will be directed by Anthony Mazzaferro. This performance is in the Campus Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and $7 for seniors and students.
The award winning Fullerton College Concert Choir will be presenting a concert of exciting choral literature from the Renaissance to the present.

Football
Records were broken at Fullerton's homecoming game and the conference opener on Saturday as the #3 Hornets flew past #8 Grossmont College 79-18. The Hornets tied the 2013 record for most points scored in a game with 79.

Men's Soccer
The Hornets lost in a hard-fought game on Friday 3-1 to visiting Santiago Canyon College. Fullerton (8-4-3 overall, 4-3-1 OEC) will try and pick it back up when they host Cypress College this Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.
Women's Soccer
Fullerton took one on the nose on Friday losing at Santiago Canyon College 7-0.

Women's Volleyball
The Hornets pulled on their first win in the Orange Empire Conference with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-19) victory over Santiago Canyon College. The win breaks a nine-game losing streak.
Up Next: Fullerton (3-11 overall, 1-7 OEC) will play at Riverside City College on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.
Women's Cross Country
The FC women's team competed at the Mt. San Antonio Cross Country Invite last Friday. A total of 126 runners competed in the race. Cassidy Nyenhuis finished first for the ladies with a time of 21:22. Kaitlyn Holt finished behind her and Haley Hogberg, Daniela Hernandez, and Samantha Beall all finished within five spots of each other. As a team, FC finished in 17th place.

Men's Cross Country
The Hornets traveled up to Mt. San Antonio College to compete in their Invitational last Friday. There were a total of 153 runners that competed in the race. The grouping was better as Xavier Chavez finished with a time of 23:23 and Ethan Sheatz was right behind at 23:42. Evan Bonnard ran a steady race with a time of 25:06 with Aaron Franklin following up a minute behind him. Wesley Maidlow was our fifth guy and was 90 seconds behind Aaron. The Hornets finished in 15th place overall.
