OPINION

Finland became independent on 6th of December, 1917. This year Finland celebrates 100 years of independence and numerous events are being held throughout 2017 in Finland and all around the world.

There are many Finns living in the Florida area, and there are three sister city bonds between Florida and Finland; Lake Worth and Lappeenranta, Lantana and Lapua, and the most recent one Boynton Beach and Rauma. The Mayor of Boynton Beach, Steven Grant, actually had the opportunity to visit Rauma among a few other cities in Finland
last month. During his stay, one of his hosts was the honorary consul of Finland, and the FACC's vice president Peter Makila.

The Finnish culture is represented in many Finland one hundred- events also in Florida this year, and on November 18th, Traveling Sauna will stop by for example in Boynton Beach, offering the opportunity to experience one of the cornerstones of Finnish culture, sauna.

As a Finnish American Chamber of commerce, we value the connections between Finland and the United States, and sharing the culture and learning about each other is a great base for doing business together.

Have a great July everyone!

Esa Jokela
FACC President
