FC Celebrates Annual Dia De Los Muertos, Oct. 27
Fullerton College is celebrating its annual Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead festival, on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. on the Quad. The event is free and open to the public and regularly draws more than 1,000 people to the college.

Speech Department to Host Debate on Proposition 63 Firearms Ammunition Initiative
The Fullerton College Speech Department will be hosting a forensics showcase featuring a debate on Proposition 63, the Firearms Ammunition Initiative. The showcase will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Room 224. Faculty and students are invited to attend.
Islamophobia in American Politics
Join the Social Sciences Division for a Q&A session with Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, to discuss the topic of Islamophobia in American Politics. This event is on Oct. 25 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 1440.
DegreeWorks Now Available
The Admissions and Records Office has added DegreeWorks to their website. DegreeWorks is a Web-based tool for students to monitor their academic progress toward degree or certificate completion. The tool will be used by counselors and students to collaboratively plan for counseling appointments, program goals, and future coursework. More information is available on the

Substance Abuse Fair
Health Services will host their annual Substance Abuse Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Quad. The Substance Abuse Fair provides students and the campus community with an informative and interactive opportunity to learn about alcohol and drug use while connecting with local resource organizations.

Sociology Club Book Collection for The Prison Library Project
The Sociology Club is holding a book collection from Oct. 25 through Nov. 15 for The Prison Library Project. The project's mission is to provide free reading materials to inmates nationwide. They prioritize educational and self-help literature as well as recognize the value of literacy development through active engagement with books in general. Donations can be made at the drop-off box in Office Suite 1423 or email

Fine Arts Faculty Nanci Schrieber-Smith Inducted into Hall of Fame
Fine Arts Adjunct Faculty Nanci Schrieber-Smith was inducted into the Culver-Stockton College Fine Arts Hall of Fame during the Alumni Honors Banquet on Friday, Oct. 7 at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. Schrieber-Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education at Culver-Stockton and received a master of fine arts at California State University, Fullerton.

Quad Haunt Comes to Fullerton College
Associated Students is hosting its annual Quad Haunt on Monday, Oct. 31 on the quad from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join fellow students for a costume contest, a pie eating contest and a Madhatter Tea Party.
Transfer Center Workshops and Saturday Hours
The After You Apply workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. provides participants with the next steps they must take after they have submitted their university application. The UC Application workshop on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. covers frequently asked questions about the UC application. RSVP to the Transfer Center, Room 212 to attend any of these events. The Transfer Center will also be open on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Study Smarter Not Harder: Study Strategies for Success
Basic Skills is hosting various student success workshops during the fall. These workshops are open to all Fullerton College students, in any discipline, and are facilitated by graduate students in the Basic Skills Graduate Student Mentorship Program. Inaugural Banned Book Essay Contest
The Fullerton College Library and Friends of the Fullerton College Library are holding the first ever Banned Book Essay Contest. Essays must answer the question: "What does freedom to read mean to you?" The length must be between 750 to 1000 words. All essays will be judged by FC Faculty for organization, central idea, supporting details, language mechanics and format. Submissions are due on Friday, Nov. 4 by 11 p.m. and winners will be notified on Nov. 14. First, second and third place winners will be awarded $250, $100 and $50 respectively. Make Your Personal Statement Stand Out
Learn how to compose and revise your essay or statement so that you can go from the stack to the star. You are encouraged to bring a draft of your scholarship essay or personal statement to the workshop. This is most appropriate for students applying for a scholarship or planning to transfer. This workshop will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. in the
Skills Center South Lab.

"Transitional Realities" refers to the changes in time, space, and emotions of a person, and how they allow these changes to shape and affect them. The five artists participating in this exhibition bring forth non-objective representations of their own external and internal realities. The opening reception is on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Fullerton College Symphonic Winds Concert will be directed by Anthony Mazzaferro. This performance is in the Campus Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and $7 for seniors and students.
The award winning Fullerton College Concert Choir will be presenting a concert of exciting choral literature from the Renaissance to the present.

In a Southern California showdown between #1 Fullerton and #3 Saddleback, the undefeated Hornets took their first loss of the season in a 30-27 shootout.

Men's Soccer
The FC men's soccer team suffered a 4-2 loss at Irvine Valley College last Friday. The Hornets (9-5-3 overall, 5-4-1 OEC) will look to bounce back on Tuesday, Oct. 25 when they go back on the road to face Orange Coast College. Game time is at 3 p.m.
Women's Soccer
The Lady Hornets beat Irvine Valley College 3-0 at home on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference game.

Women's Volleyball
FC fell 3-1 at home to Orange Coast College on Friday in a hard-fought conference match.

Women's Water Polo
The Lady Hornets competed in the Battle at the Beach Tournament hosted by Long Beach City College over the weekend. FC won their first two games on Friday defeating Palomar 17-4 and Delta 13-8. On Saturday, Fullerton dropped both games they played falling to top-ranked teams Santa Barbara 12-9 and Golden West 9-7.

Men's Water Polo
The Hornets had a good day on Friday sweeping past both of their opponents at the Santa Monica Mini-Tournament. In game one against El Camino, FC brought down the Warriors 22-4. In the second game of the day, Fullerton beat Chaffey 18-14.
