Captain's Corner
Written by Captain Kevin Deerman
Well it seems the Wahoo bite finally turned on this year. Most all of the boats that had a chance to get out this past month reported some great catches! The "Iron Crown" captained by Billy Love, captured a 97 pounder that put owner Stephen Yamin, Jr. in the top spot for the HBGFC yearlong awards program Wahoo Division! With the fish showing up late this year there's still a good possibility of getting into them if the weather cooperates. I remember years back when we had a pretty good bite in April. Good luck to everyone and please remember to tip your Weighmasters!

The Learning Curve
Written by Captain Troy Day
As we approach the season, check out this journal article on pelagic migrations brought to us by Conservation and Education committee member Evan Villarruel. Thank you to Dr. Jerry Ault for sharing his research with Evan, and thanks to Evan for bringing it to our attention. Even though Oceanic Heat Content is not readily available to us through satellite services yet, there is definitely usable information on movement patterns of blue marlin, white marlin, and yellowfin tuna in the article.

News from The Billfish Foundation
Twice a year representatives from recreational, commercial and academia convene just outside of Washington DC for Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Advisory Panel meetings to discuss issues surrounding management of billfish, tuna, and sharks here in US Atlantic waters. Important topics including regulations for both commercial and recreational fishing, new research findings, potential regulations and research needs are all discussed. This diverse group of advisory members all brings different perspectives, knowledge and experiences to the table, but together are vital in working towards establishing the best management practices for important HMS species.
