Food and Drink Network

As part of the work being delivered by the CDN Food and Drink Network, CDN has contributed to the industry action plan and we are specifically mentioned in the plan to:
  • Distribute seafood careers resources to the college sector through the Network
  • Develop and pilot engineering provision with the college sector with specific seafood modules - as part of Food Manufacture Pathway SCQF Level 5 - 9.
CDN is identifying the engineering opportunities and STEM provision in Food Manufacture pathways and is working with eight colleges to build Food Manufacture Awards into the college curriculum.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding policy and procedures have been high on the agenda for the college sector as the implications of the Prevent Duty Guidance became law in September 2015. Education Scotland has a renewed focus on staff awareness of the Prevent Strategy. In response CDN has developed:
  • A short awareness raising training programme for face to face delivery
  • A Safeguarding in Specific Circumstances programme, which will be made available on CDN LearnOnline.
CDN has set up a safeguarding Forum with representatives from across the sector. The main focus is to share emerging practice and intelligence about safeguarding. The annual safeguarding conference takes place on 18 May 2016.

Digital Learning

CDN has relaunched the Scottish Moodle User Group (SMUG). This community of Moodle users provides an opportunity for anyone with an interest in the platform to meet and share their experiences. We also plan to establish the Digital Skills Network, under which we will place sub-groups such as SMUG, the Scottish Learning Technology Network (SLTN) and a smaller working group on developing a framework for basic digital skills that can be adopted by the college sector.
