Thank you, Friends of Woodbridge Public Library

October 16-22, 2016, is the 11th annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week, making it a good time to thank the Friends of the Woodbridge Public Library who contribute so much of their time and expertise to significantly enhance our services. One of the good laughs I have had at Woodbridge Public Library was my encounter with the Friends group as they surveyed Donna Barcelona's work where used books are sorted and prepared throughout the year (and is tidier than the picture above) for the annual book sale. Not only are they organized and generous with their time, they are a delightful, dedicated group. More than 400 hours fuel the annual Book Sale, and although it is no "little" task the funds go a long way to recycle library resources, including providing the community with the Museum Pass Program and furthering the cause--to get books into the hands and homes of residents of Woodbridge Township.
Woodbridge Public Library is a source of pride for our community. Our Friends group is a source of pride as well. I hope this week everyone will call or visit the library website to find out how they can join and support this outstanding group. The annual Friends of the Library Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 2, at 7:30 pm in the Main Library. New members are welcome to help the library spread the word that...

What will libraries look like in five to ten years?
If you haven't filled out a
survey yet, please do. An even better way to share what you need from your public library is to attend a Community Conversation in the Main Library or Branch Library locations.
The library's consultants, Library Development Solutions, will conduct Community Conversations in each location to get a better sense of the current and future community needs for library service.

For me, the hook was a hardened economics academic and author admitting the value of public libraries and stating it well. The rabbit hole of the day was not being able to put aside the rest of the book,
When to Rob a Bank: And 131 More Warped Suggestions and Well Intended Rants available in print, audio book, and as a downloadable
eBook. Freakonomics authors Levitt and Dubner have published their blog full of bite-sized
observations and wit.
